Even before the pandemic business rates were killing off business and jobs
With no IF's or BUT's the government should now impose a blanket ban on the collection of business rates until such time as normality returns.
If the Government refuses to intercede then the thousands of businesses in this Borough should stop paying.
This would send a message that business is not for messing with even if it means mass civil disobedience.
Sometimes it is only such measures that make government act.
One trader in Walton St said that Cllr Sof McVeigh had been visiting businesses to give comfort and advice.
