Labour’s general election candidate for Kensington and Chelsea has said she will report her Tory renegade Liberal Democrat rival to the police, alleging he made a false statement implying she had a role, as a local councillor, in discussing the flammable cladding used on Grenfell Tower.
She has given him several days to withdraw his comments and a complaint to the Metropolitan police under the Representation of the People Act would be issued later on Sunday.
This is a case of the pot calling the kettle "black"

I have read elsewhere that Emma Dent Coad has received violent threats following Sam Gyimah's comments. Before I develop this point any further, I would just like to say that threats of violence made to ANYONE are despicable and totally unacceptable. Any decent, civilised, person will recoil in horror at threats of violence.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Sam Gyimah is not responsible for the conduct of anyone who has made threats to Emma, her volunteers and supporters. I do not believe that by saying what he did he incited anyone to issue the threats that Emma has received.
By reporting Sam Gyimah to the police, rather than reporting the threat itself, Emma has undoubtedly raised the temperature of her denials about any involvement in the refurbishment of Grenfell- without wishing to appear cynical this is a dramatic way to make a point to the electorate.
I think it was unwise of Emma Dent Coad MP to give Sam Gyimah MP an ultimatum saying that if he failed to withdraw his remarks about her involvement in the refurbishment of Grenfell Tower by Sunday that she would report him to the police. Making threats is never a good idea in negotiations or when in dispute with anyone - particularly a dispute with a political opponent during an election campaign. To issue the threat that Sam Gyimah would suffer the detriment of being reported to the police unless he did what Emma Dent Coad requested could be regarded as bullying; possibly blackmail. Emma clearly believes that Sam's comment was untrue and she is entitled to ask for an apology and for the comment to be corrected. She could have still reported Sam to the police if he failed to comply with her request and apologise.

When I look at pictures of Corbyn when he was younger with that unkempt beard and that old brown jacket that he used to wear, I am ashamed to say that I thought he needed a good wash. Mind you Vanessa Redgrave was in the WRP and she always looked well scrubbed.

DeleteThe WRP only tend to get around 30 votes in any constituency in which they put up a candidate. There are very few proper socialists nowadays. The WRP do not consider Labour, New or Corbynista, socialist and they are not wrong about that.

A right thinking person believes that criminal offences should be reported to the police.

It is either right to report someone to the police or it is not. The threat of violence that Emma received is truly appalling and should have been reported to the police. But to correlate Gyimah's remark with the threat and to make reporting the situation to the police conditional on Sam Gyimah dancing to Emma Dent Coad's tune is very concerning.
And voting Lib Dem will damage both the Labour and Tory Parties in Kensington.

ReplyDeleteEmma Dent Coad DITHERED for four long years when she was a Director of the TMO. She was told by the many not the few that the TMO was a catastrophic disaster.
So why did Emma Dent Coad join with the Tories and support the Tenant Management Organisation; an organisation that brought nothing but misery to the lives of tenants.

Emma was on the TMO Board from 2008 to 2012.
ReplyDeleteDuring that time, she knew that the TMO made Council tenants suffer. She knew that the TMO was toxic, incompetent and venal.
Did she care? We know that she created maximum impact when she reported Sam Gyimah to the police.
Will Emma be honest and tell us why she did not create a similar situation of maximum impact in the press about the TMO between 2008 and 2012 when she had first hand knowledge of the situation?
Corbyn agreed with Johnson last night that honesty is important
Emma Dent Coad told BBC Radio London this morning that Corbyn came across well in the televised debate with the Prime Minister last night.
ReplyDeleteWhen Jeremy Corbyn referred to Jeffrey Epstein he deliberately pronounced "Epstein" differently to everyone in the media who has ever referred to this man. I am sure his motivations for doing this were to emphasis that Epstein was Jewish.
Corbyn always referred to Ronald Reagan as "Raygan" because that is how the former president of the United States pronounced his name. Why should Corbyn be different to everyone else in the world who has ever referred to Jeffrey Epstein. Nasty.
EDC's Twitter feed refers to the legal advice that she has received from John Cooper about Sam Gyimah's remarks. I hope that Gyimah is not affected too much by Emma Dent Coad trying to put the frighteners on by keeping this matter on the boil.
ReplyDeleteI remember the TMO intimidating Grenfell Tower residents; which was not the TMO's finest hour.
Emma Dent-Coad was on that TMO Board for four years. It is no good her telling the world everything that was wrong with the TMO after 72 people lost their lives in a horrific fire. In these circumstances, I am not surprised that Sir Martin Moore Bick did not grant her core participant status.
ReplyDeleteEmma Dent Coad should have told the world everything that was wrong with the TMO whilst she was on the TMO Board. If she had done the right thing sooner, Grenfell may never have happened. But she did not try to do the right thing, she was very keen to secure the TMO's future in running Council flats.
I always got the impression, when she spoke to me, that she was keen on the TMO continuing with its role in managing Council Housing.

The trouble with Emma Dent Coad when she was on the TMO is she always knew best. So our Emma, a Labour Councillor with Marxist leanings, supported the Tory TMO. She always sided with the Tory Council and nothing ever improved. Council tenants were led a dance by the TMO and Emma did not shout about this as loudly as she is now shouting about Sam Gyimah.
