AN ARABIAN NIGHTMARE

Dear Dame,

Arabs are everywhere...even to St Marks Road.
Where the Westway crosses St Marks Road was a dismal spot, dark, grubby and fly-tipped.
Then about 10 years ago it was suddenly cleaned up with new paving, lighting, artistic glazed tile roundels in the pavement, and a huge abstract mural in rectangles and circles in bright colours (by the same people who did Ladbroke Grove and Portobello Road railway bridges) - yellow, orange, scarlet and verdant green.
This was perhaps not to everyone's taste, but was harmless and cheered up the location considerably.
Suddenly about two weeks ago this was painted out with the help of scaffolding and a new mural appeared:
Together with a notice, since removed, explaining that it 'represented the contemporary experience of Arab youth'.

What does it mean?
Who paid for it?
What connection does it have to the locality?
Not 'Muslim' note but 'Arab'.

As far as I can see (I haven't checked the census) the area is still predominately white or Afro-Caribbean.
Does it have any connection to Grenfell ? (no).
And it is in dark and sombre colours, in an already dark area. The whole thing is a fiasco.

  2. Love the new mural.
This is just more racist twaddle from the Dame.
Time she rid herself of her Tommy Robinson agenda and embraced all those that live in RBKC.

    1. If you have nothing better to do than post nonsense you should get yourself a hobby. This is shoddy piece of paintwork which only a vulgarian like you would appreciate. And, who on earth is this fellow Robinson?

  3. @19:18 imagery is very powerful take Keith Haring for example. The imagery in these murals look very sinister and menacing - what is the meaning - is it graffiti - it is horrible and certainly not a Banksy. Covered faces and crouching shapes, with vivid emotional colours - It looks alien and divisive.

This imagery as a whole looks weird and inappropriate for any Cityscape. I HATE IT!

  4. Arabs....a plague on the Borough and the world. Do nothing: make nothing. Dissolute, feckless and hopeless. Not wanted in our Borough and most are crooks

    1. 07.19-you rather prove the point that this blog is fertile ground for the spawning of ignorant racist propaganda- Be a good idea if the Dame showed some backbone and deleted your hateful bile or maybe she should be reported to the Met Police for hosting a platform that propagates racial hatred?

    4. 18:38! How DARE you accuse the old Dame of racism. The old thing has many Welsh friends including that old windbag, Lord Kinnock and his EU money grubbing family.
Now, as Ludo would say..."take a hike"

  5. This mural is pure humbug. Hornton Street has lost sight of its roots. Genteel Kensington has become an Arab bazaar

  6. And when the oil runs out ....

The International Monetary Fund has some advice for countries in the Gulf: Diversify, and diversify fast. The oil, that’s made many Gulf countries extremely wealthy, is not going to last forever. And the IMF’s 2017 report is predicting the worst growth rate for the region since the global financial

  8. This appears to be outrageous vandalism. Surely, some kind of permission is required from the "owner" of the space and perhaps RBKC. Otherwise, if this is not addressed, it an invitation for similar works of vandalism to appear in other parts of the Borough, If there was NO proper permit, it MUST be reverted to its former state. Quirky Quirko, please note - you may end up with similar work on your walls, as a result of disgruntled locals - not necessarily Arabs or Muslim,

Quirk is writing his books and dizzy is doing her Sloane lunches. Hornton Street has lost the plot. The reptiles turn up to work to draw their salaries. Not interested in public service and maintaining standards

  10. Yes, that would appear to be the case. Re Quirk's books: Could NOT find a copy in the RBKC Central Library. If there were copies, it may be rather embarrassing to find out how few people are interested in his drivel. As for Dizzy Lizzy, she is busy with the American Cup affairs and her aging Sloane Rangers sycophants... Nice, candle lit suppers, I guess...a la Buckett....
