VOLPE EMPLOYS VERDE

Not long ago the Council leadership were toying with the idea of asking taxpayers to make donations to help underwrite council services.
Why should they when they see the Council frittering money on Opera Holland Park?

Dear Dame,
What hold does Mike 'Foxy' Volpe have over the Council?
Another bout of blowing hard earned Council Tax on Opera Holland Park is underway. In spite of repeated calls by this blog to stop the scandalous spending. The centre of our Park is once again a mess as the three month annual building period for the tent  gets underway. And once again the Council is spending to “beautify” the site.

The lawn in front of the elevated platform, for its entire length, has been removed and is being planted up with expensive shrubs. Top class gardening company idVerde “creating and maintaining landscapes” has been hired to reconfigure the site and create a new whoosh for the millionaire Investec patrons and the Borough's well off opera buffs.

What is it with this Council? This bunch of addicted Tories. There seems to be a relentless compulsion to spend tax payers money  on this opera.

The Labour hierarchy, Opposition Leader Cllr Atkinson and Borough MP Emma Dent Coad, need to make one hell of a stink about this terrible waste when schools are scrabbling around to pay for basic needs.

  1. It defies belief. They are at it again. Give these Councillors public money and they blow it on fripperies. Families struggling to pay the bills and Dizzie & Co planting shrubs for toffs.

  2. It is time for the Council to start listening to residents. Spending Council Tax on Opera Holland Park is not acceptable

  4. Dear Gracious Dame,

Emma Dent Coad MP, every Marxists' darling, is not up to kicking up a "hell of a stink" about anything. She is a master of ridiculous stratagem but not much else. Atkinson and Henderson are much better political bruisers.

    2. The most inadequate MP we have ever had18 April 2019 at 08:29

Emma Dent-Coad MP has never impressed me much either. She does not know the meaning of "putting her shoulder to the door." She only acts if it suits her. She has never been any different.

    3. Marxist? I never knew she was a Communist. I voted Labour but I don't want all of my savings in my Abbey Book to be taken by a Communist Government. Oh my god.

    4. Emma is ok...educated her kids privately....lives in heavily rent discounted social housing and gets a whopping great salary. Don't do as I do....do as I say comes to mind....typical ficking Marxist

    6. If Kensington and Chelsea's schools are not good enough for the Marxist Emma Dent-Coad's kids then they are not good enough for anyone else's children.

If one were to ask Emma,

      Are you Marxist?

you would not get a straight answer. She would turn it in to a middle class philosophical debate by saying,

"I have been thinking about that."

      Don't let her con you.

    10. We need to get Emma Dent-Coad MP out and get Ian Henderson in to parliament.

      Ian is not a marxist.
He has not compromised his principles by sending any children to public school.
He does not claim to be of high class or classier than anyone else.
If he were to oppose the monarchy, he would do it intelligently.
He has taken on a social landlord that wanted to see off working class people and achieved much in doing so.

Councillor Emma Dent Coad praised the Council over its Grenfell refurbishment plans. She stated this proves the Council has "listened." She undermined those residents who were complaining that the Council had not listened.

      Time for a new MP?

You get a much better education at Christ's Hospital. Yes, for Emma, extreme left wing politics is frightfully exciting and amongst her toff friends she can claim to be so sexily different. Agreed, Henderson gets things done and doesn't have a massive issue with inverted snobbery!

      I agree with Lord Kensington.

Emma Dent Coad MP is a very bad marxist. She talks about class and her higher class position compared to others.

Consciousness is formed in praxis. Emma places importance on her high social class, primarily to enhance status through snobbery, because her consciousness has been formed in a capitalist society. She does not think like a marxist although she is desperate to be in with and accepted by the hard left.

    14. I expected former Tory Prime Minister David Cameron to send his daughter to Roedean, Benenden or even Christ's Hospital; just like any good conservative. He didn't. He sent his daughter to a Westminster Council state school. If Council education is good enough for a Tory why isn't it good enough for our Labour MP.

Never mind the why and wherefore,
      the socialist, Emma,
occupies a station in the upper class.

    17. The Upper Class Marxist Lady for Kensington probably likes opera. She's no different to her Tory counterparts like that. Like all good middle class Tories she likes public schools too. She won't complain about opera on the Council Tax. As a good marxist, she believe that nothing is too good for the workers and that they need opera, public school education in the same way that they need food and a world marxist order.

      Delete
    18. She's complained about the Opera for years you ninny. She was always a phenomenal councillor and as far as I can see she's done more in her two years as an MP than all the tories who came before her combined. Unless of course you're a huge fan of the reinstatement of the ivory trade in which case Lady B was a wonder...

      Delete
    19. Sorry, Emma Dent Coad has been no great shakes as a Councillor or an MP.

She complained about the Opera, did she? I'll take your word for that. We can only assume that she was no good at complaining because if she complained effectively, the Tories would have had to change their minds about the Opera. Didn't Emma do well. More of the same, please.

On the other hand, I remember Sir Malcolm Rifkind laying the law down to the Kensington and Chelsea Tory Council who had told a group of residents to get lost. Guess what, the Council changed tack. That is the difference between being a proper politician and an amateur. Mind you, even Margaret Thatcher was careful not to cross swords with Rifkind because of his tell it like it is attitude. So we should not be too hard on Emma but she needs to learn to tell it like it is with no nonsense and she might get results.

Shame Emma Dent Coad did not complain more effectively about the Housing Department when she sat on its Management Panel. She had the brass nerve to say on the radio, after the Grenfell tragedy, that there was nothing an opposition councillor could do about the housing management shambles at Kensington & Chelsea Council. Talk about clearing her own yard. So by Emma's own admission, she achieved nothing because she was in opposition.

What is the point of having an opposition councillor who claimed a generous allowance from the Council who later stated that there was nothing she could have done to stop the Housing Department proceeding as it did with catastrophic consequences?

  6. Yes, dear readers, the mad season is upon us - again. The Holland Park Opera House debate continues. When will those at the Nest realise that they are flogging a dead horse? The venue is nothing but a watering hole for the pretentious few, most of whom can't tell the difference between a tenor and a soprano...
You can't imagine the ghastly din I and my beloved have to put up with, whilst trying to have a quiet dip in the waterfall in the Kyoto Garden. We simply must invest in these modern ear muffs... to block out all this ghastly noise...
It is very sad indeed, that large amounts of dosh continues to be pissed against the wall by Dr Quirk et al, to appease the very few, to secure their sycophancy, whilst important other community efforts suffer... For example, I am told by Brenda, the Stay Put Handyman scheme, "not so stella Stella Baillie" discontinued... shameful, but than, dear reader, who at the Nest could care a f*ck? As our dear Victoria Derbyshire's guest yesterday said "Business back to as usual". How true. The hyena is unlikely to change her spots, only because the carrion has changed its flavour...The truly disgusting waste of taxpayers money continues..we all remember the "Exhibition Road fiasco", don't we, dear readers....the millions pissed down the road, to satisfy some ghastly man's folly.

  7. Atkinson Budget Speech March 6th .
“MM in the current climate how can this council dare to keep pouring money into Leighton House and Holland Park when simultaneously you claim the need to cut our youth clubs and youth services. And while you have not grasped the nettle of the Borough taking the responsibility to save our much loved Wornington College. MM this Borough has a far greater duty towards Wornington College and to replacing the Internationally famous and disgracefully abolished Maxilla Children’s Centre than it does to further tarting up of Leighton House or Holland House. MM let us care more for the many than for the well-connected few.”
“we have discovered more than £7.5 m intended capital investment that in the current circumstance we simply cannot possibly support. Let Friends of Holland Park and Opera and Leighton House at least raise some on the huge capital sums they require themselves and not call upon [ Council Tax payers] to support them “

  8. Of course, Emma Dent Coad is right behind taxing her constituents who because of house price inflation in Prime Central London are now asset comfortable but income poor. So some person with a home costing £2 million will be forced to pay a huge land value tax. If they can't afford it they will be forced to sell in a downward falling market. Ah, well, that's Marxism for you as adapted by the Provo loving Irishman, John McDonnell.

I do not remember any former member of parliament being as unpopular as Emma Dent-Coad MP.

Does anyone know what possessed the Labour Party to allow her to stand for parliament? To have Emma Dent-Coad foisted on us is all the more concerning when Labour Councillors showed her the door a few years ago when they sacked her as Leader of the Labour Group on Kensington and Chelsea Council.

It seems that she is not popular with her own and is less than popular with people like me who have always voted Labour and always wanted a Labour MP but never thought we would ever get one.

  9. Marxism: plus ca change............22 April 2019 at 20:15

Diane Abbott MP says that she sent her boy to public school because only 9% of Black boys in Hackney Council schools get 5 good GCSE's. Therefore, 91 % of Black boys get a sh*t education ironically provided by a Labour Council that espouses the cause of equality but falls miserably short of achieving it.

In 2016, 70% of boys and girls educated in Kensington and Chelsea Council Schools got 5 Grade A* to Grade C GCSE's including Maths and English. This is something that should be a source of pride for the Tory Council something that Labour Hackney would do well to emulate.

Furthermore, 75% of boys and girls in Kensington and Chelsea Council schools in 2016 got Grade A* to Grade C passes in English and Maths even if they left school without a total of 5 good GCSE passes. In other words, three quarters of the children in Tory Kensington and Chelsea Council schools were literate and numerate at age 16.

Emma Dent Coad MP sent her kids to the exclusive Christ's Hospital when they could have been educated by the state in Kensington and Chelsea in outstanding schools and done well. She perpetuated class inequalities by buying privilege with money.

One rule for the toffs another for the workers.
