Proposed Chelsea Estates Conservation Area Designation and Conservation Area Appraisal Consultation

Dear Stakeholder,

The Council is consulting on the proposals for a new conservation area. The area under consideration comprises the William Sutton and Samuel Lewis Estates. Both are planned social housing estates dating from the early 20th century. The consultation will run for a period of six weeks from 7 February 2019 to 21 March 2019.

The proposed boundary of the new conservation area and a draft Chelsea Estates Conservation Area Appraisal (setting out the historic and architectural interest of the area) is available to view and download on-line from https://planningconsult.rbkc.gov.uk/.

The main advantage of conservation area designation is that it provides a greater level of protection from inappropriate development. These additional protections effect the way owners can alter and develop their properties. These include; control over the demolition of unlisted buildings, the requirement for new development to preserve or enhance the character and appearance of the area, tighter controls on adverts, works to trees and the small scale changes to buildings.

The Council will consider all representations received before making a decision on whether or not to designate the proposed Chelsea Estates Conservation Area or adopt the draft conservation area appraisal.
