SHOULD CHILDREN GO HUNGRY IN THE WORLD'S RICHEST CITY?

Today, just over 1300 unique visitors popped along to find out what's going on in our Royal  Borough...some Labour; some Conservative; some Lib Dem and some Advance but mostly just interested in their community.
One thing the old Dame is certain of is.... their hearts overflow with compassion, irrespective of their politics.

Reading about 4/5/6 years old's coming to school hungry and with rumbling tummies makes the Dame weep.
It's no good saying, "oh, it's the fault of their parents".
The fact remains they are going hungry and it's a tragedy.
The recent C.4 programme showed four-year-olds as they are...without guile and gentle with each other.
We have much to re-learn from them.

The Dame's new best friend is Kristina Spindler and she is spearheading the Felix Project.
A mate of the Dame
You can read about the project below.
It's just one of those brilliant 'I wish I had thought of that idea'
And, it's not just about giving out relief food: it's as much about educating parents into how they can feed their children in a healthy and economical way.

Old folk like the Dame get a Winter Fuel Allowance.
Does she need it? Of course not.
So, if you are loaded like the Dame why not give all or even part of it to this wonderful project.
And if you aren't an oldie like the Dame, or just unloaded, please still give.

Giving is easy and if you have ideas to help please drop Kristina an email kristina@thefelixproject.org

From
a standing start in March 2016, The Felix Project has emerged as a force in the food rescue sector. The charity now has 10 staff, 150+ volunteers serve 90+ charities and collect from 80+ food suppliers. Ten tonnes of food that would otherwise go to waste passes through their operation each week, worth a market value of around £60,000, and they are providing over 18,000 meals to those in need on a weekly basis. This year they will serve a million meals.

This year funds raised by the Evening StandardThe Independent and London Live Christmas Appeal will go to The Felix Project to aid a new programme in primary schools - to help channel food directly to those young children and their families who are in the greatest need. This will ensure that no child in any primary school supported by The Felix Project ever goes to bed hungry. At the end of the school day, children and their families will be guided to a welcoming Felix ‘market stall’ and be able to fill a Felix bag with a healthy and delicious selection of fruit and veg and other items to take home.

The programme will be established in 120 of London’s most deprived schools over the next 2 years, benefitting more than 50,000 children and their families. Every £1 donated to the appeal will ensure a primary school child and their family has the food needed for a nutritious meal otherwise deprived to them. Please follow the Dame and click HERE and give as generously as you can. #HelpAHungryChild

  1. Why are we pouring money into often misspent foreign aid when we have hunger on our doorstep....unbelievable!

    1. Why does it follow that aid to to the poorest in the world be cut? Why not tax some of the billions held off shore or make Amazon, Starbucks and Google pay a fair rate of tax? Why is the answer to kick the people at the very bottom?

  2. This sounds like a well organised charity

  3. Councillors were alerted yesterday to a peaceful but noisy demonstration, orchestrated by the ‘Revolutionary Communist Group’, outside the Town Hall from about 5.30pm. The star speaker at this demonstration was one Emma Dent Coad MP, who was very happy to be filmed with her new supporters. She did not attend the Council meeting, although she is still a councillor, but left all the hard work representing her constituents to her Labour colleagues. Has she now left the Labour Party?

  4. Why do political parties and their questionable supporters jump on the bandwagon of fighting hunger? Surely, this should be apolitical effort.

  5. I am regarded by some of our contributors as a nasty rodent/vermin. But I can tell you one thing: we are a 'self-limiting' species. This means that if the sette (our community) thinks that it could not support new babies, it does NOT make them. I just hope that humans should heed our practice. Have the children they can afford to feed, educate, etc, rather than depend on the State and the generosity of charity.

      I don't share that view.
When I visit Trumpers for my daily shave you come very close to my chin so we are quite intimate.

    2. Well the Royal family seems to do quite well out of the state !

    3. Too right, Sad Badger. I know that when my neighbour's husband died, I told his widow that if she got rid of just one of her three children she could afford to feed herself and the other two, and turn the heating on. When a friend became ill and lost her job she could have got a lot of money from just one of her children's kidneys, but she wouldn't do it - imagine! A greedy spouse left the family destitute after a divorce: if only the remaining parent had the sense to butcher just one child, they and the other children could eat well for a month. All of them are greedy pigs, expecting the State to hand feed them when they should get out on the streets at night to raise a little extra cash.

  6. While theoretically Sad Badger's comments are valid, the children are not to blame if their parents failed to foresee the potential for misfortune. It happens. Regardless of its origin, the children must be fed. Another issue is that working people can remain in poverty.

A considerable amount of these Children are orphans . You sound like an extra in a Charles Dickens script . What do you think the 300m in reserves in RBKC would be better spent on - The opera - you don't have any ancestors called 'Antoinette' do you ?. What a very stupid way to look at a real issue . Your blethering does nothing to actually resolve the issue - are you suggesting sterilizing the poor - well hey - if burning them to death or making them homeless don't work - let's sterilize them . You can do one - my Grandad and his 4 brothers fought a war against people like you - you are not what this country needs - Why don't you escape to the Country and take your hatred out on some innocent pheasants. You really , after all that has happened hugely out of touch .

    2. what a load of nonsense. Never suggested 'sterilisation', merely birth control.. I have already expressed my opinion of the third rate 'opera' which is on my sette's doorstep. We have to put up with it; whereas you people pay for it.
BTW: the only people who have and are fighting us is the Government and their unsubstantiated claims about TB. Have the compulsory culls reduced TB in cattle? No evidence so far. And, we have no truck with pheasants.

    3. Don't know about TB but there is a definite case of mad cow disease in the Westminster vicinity beware .

  7. There is a "stark" increase between the ages of seven and 11 in the proportion of children in the UK who are overweight or obese, new data suggests.

The study of nearly 12,000 children found 25% were overweight or obese at age seven, rising to 35% at 11.

Nearly 40% of 14-year-olds whose mothers had no qualifications above GCSE level were overweight or obese, while the proportion was 26% among those whose mum had a degree or higher qualifications.
