The new Royals in Kensington Palace seem to be setting a new and costly tone. First there was the new cast iron entrance to the Palace (Garden Furniture according to architect supremo Cllr Moylan). Then there is the profit making food festival (24/7) in Perks Field next month, courtesy of new family member Tom Parkit Bowles. Then the huge new planting of fir trees on Palace Green to give the shy family some privacy (nuts: if we pay for them then we should be able to see them!!). Now the basement excavation so that staff can be moved out of the Palace to create more room for goodness knows what.
And the youngsters have given up work "to spend more time with the family". And some very risky B Movie actresses are in attendance and sleeping over - not even Princess Margaret sunk to such depths. And of course "doors to manual" is in mother in law overdrive.
No comment from the Kensington Society about this proposed travesty. I wonder why? Could it be that the Head of the Society is a freeloader at the Palace?
I believe the application claimed that extra space is needed as storage and restoration facilities for spare royal costumes etc, for KP's various exhibitions of gowns. This raises the question why the Palace can't rent secure storage to store extra clothing, like the rest of us.
Before coming here for the 2nd time, I wondered 'who the Hell is paying for all this?' You have answered it - us the stupid taxpayers. Who is getting Brownie points? Piggy et al.... as for storage: what is wrong with a secure facility in Kent?
And isn't it strange that the Science Museum, Royal Albert Hall and the Friends of Hyde Park believe that they are entitled to write letters of support? Isn't the consultation period meant to be for residents to give their opinions? Do these institutions want to get into the good books of the Planning department by any chance?
To reply to the Dames Investigator, 12.22 : I have not renewed my Kensington Society subscription because they failed to make an objection to this monstrous subterranean application.
Perhaps the Dame will be kind enough to send one of her many underemployed heralds to Ken Soc Castle to demand an explanation of what exactly they think they're playing at.

But the Dame has also reminded them that they represent their members who pay annual subscriptions. And Society members do not like it when their Committee becomes self serving.......
Beware "private meetings with Royal Palaces". The Society has become transfixed with the idea of "moving and shaking". Trying to be a power broker in order to rub shoulders with the rich and powerful.
They went down this road with the developers of Newcombe Tower and ended up speaking against their own members at a public Planning Appeal in the Town Hall earlier this year.
Its is not only the Society that is corrupted. The Planning Department is so cavalier with its "stuff the resident" consultation process that the website states that "consultation ends on 28th April" but another part of the website states "decision to be taken on 27th April"
What is the point of having a consultation if the decision is taken before the consultation ends?
