WHAT'S SAUCE FOR THE GOOSE IS SAUCE FOR THE GANDER

Fresh from trying to turn a buck renting out PERKS FIELD for some ghastly Food Fayre( what is it about this British obsession with eating?) William and wife have been persuaded by an idiot 'adviser' to build an Iceberg Basement below the Kensington Palace Orangery. LINK
The Dame is as obsequious and servile as any other when it comes to the Royal Family.
Her polo playing days are long over she still remembers with misty-eyed pleasure playing a chukka or two with Prince Charles and Cllr 'Polo Boy' Marshall.
Presumably, the applicant will say that there is no pre-existing basement so falls outside CL7: that won't wash as the plan is to build a two storey basement.
ICEBERG BASEMENT PLAN
But, of greater importance, is where the utterly useless Historic England stands.
It is strictly forbidden to construct basements under listed buildings. The Orangery is Grade 1 listed so it will be easy for the Planning Committee to kick this one into the long grass and blame Historic England.
What's even more hypocritical is the claim that the building works are necessary for the welfare of visitors LINK

The Dame is increasingly concerned about the vulgarity of the new generation of Royals.
They really do seem frightfully common....

It reminds the Dame of the advice of a wise Royal councillor. When asked by Queen Caroline how much it would cost to enclose Hyde Park to keep out the hoi polloi was told, " only a crown, ma'am; only a crown".

  1. This is a brilliant example of the Establishment at work. Read the application to the Planning Department and it is clear that Officers, in their "pre application advice", have managed to use administrative means to drive a coach and horses through basement policy. "this case is an exception and a double basement is OK"

    Need one continue?

Of course. Those accustomed to the brown envelope world have spun into a dizzy fit following an "approach from the Palace". The courtiers know this well and have spun their magic.

The whole application is bogus. The bogus ocnsultation and nine letters of support. A consultation that was not carried out by Hornton Street, but by the Palace. And put forward as an "official consultation". With the information that "Ward Councillors have been consulted"

This is the kind of attack that Tories fall for. The Borough needs a stern Labour response to this one

    2. PLEASE keep Politics out of this affair. It concerns Listed Buildings - not a by-election......

Cllr Moylan would not fall for this one. He would see through it in a nano second and say "No"

    1. Her Royal Highness told the Dame she was furious with his comments about the 'porch' she proposed for KP.

  3. Weak links in this process are The Kensington Magazine and the Kensington Society. Both Chairpersons LOVE to rub shoulders with the Royals and are certain push overs. The applicant has already claimed that "We advertised in the Kensington Magazine"

    1. Freebie benefit Duke of Gloucester (grace and favour apartment at Kensington Palace) is a trustee of the Kensington Society. Big conflict of interest.

    1. With polo playing "Boy" Marshall as Chairman of the Planning Committee, all is lost.

  5. This is a rats nest of using contacts. Big coincidence that William and step brother Tom Parkit Bowles fix up Perks Field (tax payer owned and funded) for a profit making 24/7 food jamboree that will create public chaos. Another coincidence that William and polo playing mate "Quent" will do a little bit of "nudge nudge" for the new basement. Another coincidence that the "Duke" has his oar deeply into the Kensington Society.

    Oh well.......

  6. This story is another example of why the residents of Kensington and Chelsea need the Dame and the Hornet ot look after their interests.

  8. William wishes it to be known that he knows nothing of this and has no opinion of this. Also he does not discuss matters such as this with family and relatives.

Willie is lying or stupid. Of course, he does....just like Perks Field.
And you tell him he and his brother need to get on with some work.
      Lazy buggers

  9. We should not forget that in a doubtless well-meaning attempt to save the African elephant, Prince William has said he'd like to burn a good part of the Royal Collections of works of art. Someone should take the young man aside and gently point out that the Royal Collections belong to the State; not to him nor his family. For "State" read the taxpayer. The historical evidence is that destruction of the past does not improve future outcomes.

The Prince would be wise to follow his grandmother's policy of restraint in relation to such matters.

  10. Do the citizens - sorry that should be subjects - have any say in the matter? First an expensive hedge and now a double basement for their serfs - how out of touch and how badly advised they are ....
