This time in the shape of the Imperial Tobacco Pension fund. The fund has applied to knock down the much loved Daunt Bookshop in Fulham Rd and replace it with yet another boring eatery...Cote.
However, despite being recommended by Mr Stallwood's planners, the Planning Committee sensibly turned it down last night.
So, here's a question for Mr Stallwood....
The Planning Committee were so appalled by the design mediocrity of your recommendation that they threw it out without even giving it a moment's discussion.
Why on earth did you recommend it to the Committee?
Against the wishes of residents, Mr. Stallwood's team has recommended the destruction of this much-loved enclave set prettily back from the hubbub of Fulham Rd.
But it seems that residents are at last beginning to bare their teeth and are challenging Mr Stallwood and his team.

Of course, nothing gives our planners more of a thrill then cozying up to one of the world's most powerful pension funds.....so much more fun than dealing with boring little residents.

DeleteWhatever Weale actually said, the correct expression is 'to hear but not to listen'. 'Hearing' is a passive activity, whereas 'listening' is active, implies intelligent interaction, and possibly action.

Time after time, the developers' poodles champion the destruction of the very buildings, spaces and cultural facilities that K&C's long-suffering, tax-paying residents hold dear and that give K&C the character the planners, for some perverse reason, appear determined to destroy.
ReplyDeleteThing is that many of these buildings were approved by the Town Hall planners in the first place. Its all a job creation exercise.
ReplyDeleteDaunt Books will in fact be one of the occupants of the new building, so this post is inaccurate in saying it will be 'replaced' by Cote.
ReplyDeleteAs for the new building being low quality, perhaps, but look what's there now. Almost anything would be an improvement.
Daunt will be asked back paying a vastly increased rent. And, are you really idiotic? The new building will mean that the little piazza so loved by all will disappear. Talk about what you know about, dimwit!
DeleteRosary Gardens is right, there is no guarantee Daunt Books would return to this stretch. Looks like 14:27 has had too may dubonnet and cokes to think this is a good idea. Can see it now traffic all the way up and down Fulham road backed up all the way up Redlcliffe towards Earls Court.

14:27 looks like one of the interested parties to profit from this blight. A resident supporting this is like turkeys voting for Christmas.

DeleteResidents can request a free weekly emailed list of planning applications for a particular postcode or larger area.
ReplyDeletePlease look on RBKC's planning website or phone Planningline at the Town Hall for details. A quick glance through the weekly list in an area provides a resident with the most up to date information on developments. A link to each application provides all the planning documents, which can be enlarged and/or printed out. There's facility to comment, support or object to each application. One can also cut and paste details of a particular application to one's neighbours well in advance of the closing of the public consultation. It's brilliant. In fact it's so helpful to residents, one wonders why RBKC doesn't promote it to the widest possible audience. Or perhaps one knows perfectly well why not.
