THE DAME TO ATTEND GLITZY EARLS' COURT FILM PREMIERE

The Dame was thrilled to be invited as guest of honour at the very first Earl's Court Fringe Film Night organised by The Earl's Court Area Action Group on Wednesday, 9th November.
She will be wearing the sparkly 'family heirloom' Boucheron tiara she liberated from the family of hubby No. 4, the Armenian arms dealer.

The event will take place in the Upstairs Room at the Bolton Pub( not wheelchair accessible)

The Earl’s Court Area Action Group (ECAAG) is organising the first Earl’s Court Fringe Film Night.

ECAAG is producing its own standalone fringe event that will coincide with the second Earl's Court Film Festival whose chief sponsor is Capital & Counties Properties Plc (Capco).

In the interest of balance, ECAAG’s aim is to stage an alternative event that is entirely free of corporate spin and is not driven by Capco’s cynical commercial interests, dressed up as caring for the very community its development is set to wreck.

The core message is that Earl’s Court is, against the will of many residents, being hijacked by Capco and is in danger of being defined within the narrow self-interests of the developer's Earls Court Masterplan.

Capco claim they are creating "a new district for London." What is happening there, however, goes beyond urban regeneration.  Capco has destroyed the iconic Earls Court Exhibition Centre and with it, an area’s cultural heritage and socio-economic heart. Capco also seeks to demolish 760 homes on the West Kensington and Gibbs Green estates, destroying well-established close-knit communities with no gain to residents. Capco are in fact creating a "property bank” of ultra-prime market flats for the benefit of largely overseas investors. Scandalously, not one single new social rented or affordable rent home is proposed on the site of the former Exhibition Centre.

Against a backdrop of ‘hard Brexit’ and the compelling need to increase exports it is inconceivable that any government should surrender 16% of the UK’s total exhibition space to developers. Not only was Earls Court Exhibition Centre one of London’s two major shop windows for the world, it generated  prosperity at a local level (many businesses have since shut).  It also brought fun, fashion, music and culture to Londoners and visitors from the UK and overseas.

Ironically, Capco describes its PR-driven headline sponsorship of the second Earls Court Film Festival thus:
“Capco recognises that creativity is a key ingredient to the development of a place’s culture and enduring local identity. Our aim is to help bring people together and communities to life through a committed investment in creativity and the arts, and Capco’s support of the Earl’s Court Film Festival underlines this commitment in Earl’s Court.” ¹

ECAAG’s fringe film night demonstrates the staunch resistance and resilience within the local
community to stand up to Capco. ECAAG’s event keeps the spirit of rebellious creativity burning bright within Earl's Court.
When and where
Starts at 7pm on Wednesday, 9th November at The Bolton pub, 326 Earls Court Rd, London SW5 9BQ. Nearest tube is Earl's Court

The CAPCO event is pure humbug. Pandering to Hornton Street misfits.

What I fail to understand is the logic of knocking down 700 Council houses (affordable housing) in order to sell the land to CAPCO developers who will replace this housing stock with up market "buy to leave" flats for foreigners who want to park hot money in London.

Is it any surprise that the electorate is turning to Trump types in desparation? What on earth does piggy and his Cabinet think they are doing?

This is taking brown envelopes a stage too far for society. Starting with piggy, if he is a human being, he should be deeply ashamed of himself and the way he is abusing responsibility.

  2. Typical of a greedy property developer like CAPCO that they can pretend to create social cohesion and relationships via a one off film night - in place of generations of families living and bonding in a community A community that has been decimated by the signature of the Chairman of the Kensington and Chelsea Planning Committee (hang your head in shame, Cllr Warwick).

What a load of chumps we have in Hornton Street

  3. At last residents have the chance to find out who the Dame is and meet her face to face at the film Premiere. We have waited a long time for this.

    2. Residents could be in for a big surprise - the Dame is a cross dresser.

    3. Fly on the Wall: this is merely an unjustified conjecture...be careful or you may get hit hard by one of her designed handbags.

    4. KarlH you need to sharpen up. After a (long) night out the "Dame's" stubble is clearly evident. This has nothing to do with designer handbags.

  5. Judging my the 'English' used by 'Cllr' Palmer, it clearly shown what a load of uneducated thieving louts we have at the Nest.

  6. Forensic analysis. Couldn't agree more. Cynical, transparent PR ploy from those whose 'new district for London' symbolises local and national government's dismal surrender to a culture of greed that destroys, not nurtures, communities.

    1. & the phrase 'my earls court' says everything about them they feel the area is theirs not the residents and businesses who have payed more into the community than they paid for the exhibition site.

  7. The Earls Court Area Action Group is itself a fringe activity. Like all of these gestures it will fizzle.

As long as developers have the inside track with Councillors and Officers this kind of abuse will continue. Resident Associations need to band together to bring pressure on Ward Councillors and the Cabinet to make it known that this kind of thing needs to stop. Enormous pressure, via the press, needs to be put on the Leader, Cllr Paget-Brown.

Without this kind of action, we are all pissing in the wind. The mainly brain dead Resident Associations need to sharpen their act. There are of course some exceptions eg the Caryl Harris organisation. David White at Campden needs a second wind.

    1. Likewise, the abolishment of the Audit Commission has encouraged all those in this process to do as they feel fit, without any fear of proper audit....

    2. Indeed, as we have seen on a BBC documentary and in the Guardian last week. I cannot see any reason why the National Audit Office should be responsible for not only the Central government, but also local government. They are very thorough and have proper powers of enforcement... worthwhile a debate...

    3. Mystic Meg, is that you? Otherwise how would you know that the Earl’s Court Film Fringe Night will “fizzle” and not sizzle? How strange that you dismiss ECAAG for doing what you encourage residents to do in the rest of your post. Perhaps you are unaware that ECAAG and its supporters have been successful in changing govt. legislation involving Capco’s biz partner TfL; revealed the undervaluation of the Earls Court Masterplan and much more. You can go to saveearlscourt.com for more info As for "enormous pressure from the press" - good luck with that.

15.14 please note that I have found that the only thing that Councillors are frightened of, and take note of, is criticism in the media.

    5. Not true, Seasoned Campaigner. The reptiles are terrified of the Dame and her hornets

    6. ECAAG going strong, know they are thorn in side of Spalding & Aouane who are wined, dined and brown enveloped by CapCo.

  8. So there are residents in Earl's Court with backbone who are capable of organising enjoyable & worthwhile events without taking the oh so easy, supine option of having developer Capco sponsor them or a friendly estate agent. I will be attending the fringe film night and taking my sprightly 81 year old grandma with me. She wants to observe the Dame's jewellery as she can spot paste from the real thing from a mile away.

    1. Why is Troubador hosting CapCo's film festival?

They have lost tons of revenue thanks to CapCo. Very disappointed!

TLC seem quite close to CapCo too, want to get in on the action we presume.

    2. The Finborough Theatre and St Cuthbert's Church are also hosting it. Maybe Twiggy is not aware as a former Neasden council estate resident herself that Capco destroying 760 homes on the West Kensington estates, which most of the residents oppose, is part of their redevelopment. In the April edition of Capco publication "The View" it stated that "The judging panel is to include director of The Finborough Theatre, Neil McPherson, television director Cilla Ware, esteemed RSC actor Leigh Lawson and iconic British model and actress Twiggy"

  9. CapCo' shares already dropped significantly before Brexit in 2015 from 450 to 330. The luxury market is dead! Long may it be. Chelsea wharf has gone the same. You will NOT see the towers rise due to loss of foreign buyers/buy to leavers.

Berkeley in Battersea will be able to get away with it being closer to central London but only just.

Earls Court is a debacle CapCo knew before in 2014 they missed their chance; they would have to knock it down in 2010 to have made anything of it even then its was doubtful.
