YOU, THE RBKC TAXPAYER ARE PAYING FOR A MIDDLE EASTERN FESTIVAL....WHY?
Never has this Council been under greater financial pressure so what gives it the right to waste money on an event with little connection to the lives of residents.
How is the council under financial pressure? With an underspend in the last financial year of £14million and surplus of a couple of hundred million I think we can all tuck ourselves in a night safe in the knowledge that RBKC are loaded.
Is RBKC loaded or not? I don't know but they've just cut down on the cashier desk opening hours. In fact, they reduced it last year but they have cut down even more and it is now only open between 12-2pm. So they don't have money for services but they can afford to sponsor an art exhibition. Yeah that make sense!!
The Council is there to clear dustbins and sweep the parks. It has no business spending tax payers money on Festivals to celebrate Middle East and North African art. What an abuse of tax payers money!
Of course Kensington and Chelsea has a multicultural mix of residents and it may be appropriate for other culture events to take place. But not funded by Council Tax. This is a Council with too much money to spend and Councillors and Officers with not enough to do. Overtaxing on a grand scale.
Leader Paget-Brown is running a fat and bloated ship and seems incapable of reducing this to a lean and mean machine. We might just as well have the Socialists in power.
The Royal Borough has become a Tory joke administration.
The Dame is right to highlight this on going abuse of tax payers money by the Tory administration in Hornton Street. She put the spotlight on the £1 million a year subsidy to Opera Holland Park (from Council tax) and got rid of that. Now she has the equally ridiculous Nour Festival in her sights.
Why don't they sponsor ISIS. I expect the participants in this rubbish are extreme Islamists. I notice the terrorist supporting Qatari's are not sponsoring this year.
You are supporting criminal activities by paying tax because the money goes to where it shouldn't, it's a war crime, therefore, send a notice to withold your payment until such time they can prove that they are not contributing to wars.

Council Tax Timebombs by Alan Murdie, barrister http://benefitslegalgroup.org.uk/2015/02/council-tax-timebombs/
ISIS! Why not. Quite a few supporters in N Kensington, including terrorist arrests. Obviously part of the Royal Borough scene. Lets celebrate it - put on a few DOI classes about bomb making.
Paying for Middle Eastern gigs, whilst cutting adult social care, wherever possible. Even removing the very valued Staying Put small repairs facility available to those on low incomes.... How on Earth can a person on benefits afford to pay for someone to come and adjust a curtain rail, with an hourly rate of at least £40? What P-B is doing is simply and utterly disgraceful...
If some local people are ignorant enough to think celebrating Middle Eastern and African culture equates to supporting ISIS, you can already see one reason why those hosting the festival thought it would be a good idea.
I hear that Mr Corbyn is to stop arms sales to Saudi Arabia, when they form a government. Tha\t will release funding for dozens of these festivals and possibly a huge bridge from North Africa to Gibraltar, bypassing the boat people.
Dear Alison It would help the Middle East and Africa culture buffs if the ISIS crowd came from Iceland. Unfortunately they do not. They come from Middle East and Africa. So it is not surprising that anything to do with those areas of the world comes under suspicion and growing dislike.
I suggest that you take a look, from time to time, at the appearance of the many terrorists and bombers who are frequently photographed. Dead or alive. They all bear a striking resemblance to Africa and Middle East types.
It may not surprise you to know that I do not feel warm when I see these types. And certainly do not want my hard earned taxes spent on these infidels and their "culture".
Scot, it is the Arabs who are fighting Daesh, born out of Bliars war in Iraq. You should remember that terroism was born in the Middle East in Palestine by Jewish Palestinians and Europeans the likes of Ben Gurion who prefered to fight the British during WWII rather than the fascists the British were fighting.
The point of the post is that Council tax should not be used for this fesitval! Not that the festival should happen.
Britain has always been an arabophile country and especially when thousands of arabs died for the British during both world wars fighting fascists.
What do you mean "these types" maybe you should go along to the festival and have the xenophobia squeezed out of you.
Dear 18.07 If you study the origins of ISIS it is all about intolerance of Western ways which are considered to be decadent according to a strict interpretation of the Koran. I have no interest in learning about a culture that considers my culture to be flawed and no interest in mixing with a culture that is determined to destroy my culture.
It might be more appropriate to have a "Festival of Anglo Saxon Culture" in Baghdad and Riyhad. But just try to get permission to do that!!! Impossible.
We have allowed many Mosques to be built in the UK and of course they become hotbeds of radicalization. Did you ever try to open a Christian Church in Arab land?
This is a very interesting observation above about the Muslim culture and the extremists. The Bible is also extreme in parts but radicals do not use it as an excuse to blow people up and throw them off high buildings. Residents of the Royal Borough need to send out a clear message to the Arab culture - "Take a hike and stay at home". We should not be using tax payers money to build a Trojan Horse like the Nour Festival.
Thin end of a wedge. The misguided souls in Hornton Street are undermining our society - just like they do when they give planning permission for buy to leave.
Yes when western soldiers go and kill million innocent Iraqis that's okay then! I am shocked by some of the commentators say on here about Arabs - I'm no lefty by any stretch but any sort of these remarks would not be warranted at the Royal Geographical Society.
Trojan horse? Reading too much Daily Mail there Outraged, if this was Trojan horse we wouldn't know it, gen up your classics ya cretin.
22:43 Just to show how stoopid you are there are Christian churches in Iraq! The only thing Saddam did well was allowing many Iraqis to keep their faiths whether Christian or Muslim. Stave off the EDL meetings your going to do yourself a mischief.
Though public money should NOT be used for this festival it has shown how many in this borough are bigotted and stoopid like Outraged & 22:43.
Dame YOU need to stress this is about the missuse of our public funds not the festival itself!
Outraged is being economical with the truth when he/she talks about Arab savages blowing up innocent civilians. Did he/she ever hear of a Christian place called Ireland?
The British Council receives no support from host Governments. It is a UK propaganda machine, paid for by UK tax payers, to teach English in foreign countries and award education scholarships in the UK
How is it propaganda? Have you seen the schedule and what has been proposed?
Wasp you need to look through the programme first before making statements you can't substantiate, please point out which lectures or exhibitions are propaganda. I doubt this is propaganda when you have a talk entitled 'Poets in Exile'. Is it the Arab puppets or kites that scare or you, or maybe the topography.
THe point of the matters is we should not be paying for this, end of.
See, we are all going at each other about the detail whilst the prannys at Hornton street go scott free with OUR cash.
Does anyone have any figures on how much RBKC is spending on the festival?
As so many have said, this is about a council deciding its civic responsibilities extend to using taxpayer's cash in an arbitrary way. Where does it stop? Do we support Polish, Italian or French cultural initiatives? After all, we have numerous RB residents from Poland, Italy and France. RBKC needs to stick to its knitting and not play at being a patron of the arts at the expense of hard pressed taxpayers.
The Council continues to play with fire in this long tradition of splurging tax payers money on stuff like Opera Holland Park, Leighton House and Nour Festivals. It is abominable that taxes are used for this instead of basic services. A Hornton Street elite pandering to its whims.
You know, just like TMO situation, only united front to tackle it will be the solution. Boycott paying the Council Tax! That will get them take notice of you otherwise they will have to leave you alone. Win-Win since you will not have to pay the tax until the matter is resolved.

ReplyDeleteYou mean Northern Ireland United Kingdom
DeleteDid Outraged ever hear of an organisation called The British Council?
ReplyDeleteThe British Council receives no support from host Governments. It is a UK propaganda machine, paid for by UK tax payers, to teach English in foreign countries and award education scholarships in the UK
DeleteOutraged and Moylan's friend are dick heads. The point is that K&C tax payers money should not be used to fund foreign propaganda. Period.

ReplyDeleteCuddly Arabs and North Africans. Certain gents have a feeling for them

DeleteOr, better still, move to Arab land
98%?! They fiddled it again. Their statistics aren't what it seems to be. Absolutely disgusting!!!
