LIES, LIES AND NOTHING BUT LIES

Dear Dame

IS your Council LYING to you? CAN you trust RBKC?
This building has a propaganda poster beneath it entitled "The New Marlborough Primary School" and describing benefits such as "60 new pupils" -  a twist of the truth, since it's the same increase in intake the old school was scheduled for.
But what you may not know is that the building you are looking at IS NOT the new school!

It is the commercial building that RBKC Council did not tell you about.

  • The one that they are building on the pupils' playground.
  • The one for which they FAILED to apply for disposal of playground, in so doing BREAKING AN ACT OF PARLIAMENT, until campaigners contacted the Dept for Education who insisted they apply.
This building is the reason why Marlborough school children will now be forced to play on the roof of the new school!

When the Council finally put in their application for permission to dispose of the playground, there was a public outcry and 158 objections were received.
The Playing Fields Advisory Panel rejected the Council's application to dispose of the playground in a damning report, advising the Secretary of State NOT to grant permission. However, the loss of playground was, in the Playing Fields Advisory Panel's own words a “fait accompli,” since planning permission had already been secured and building site works had already commenced, and as a result the then Secretary of State for Education Nicky Morgan did indeed grant permission to the Council.

Yours

  1. Scandalous! The Rotten Borough has long acted as a body external to the laws of England & Wales. This is just a particularly visible example.

The reason it does so is that decade after decade residents vote Tory on tribal grounds. Nothing will change till residents express their collective anger by voting en masse for an alternative political party.

Rules are there to be changed, ignored, broken or distorted. What matters is the policy of the Cabinet and planners in Hornton Street. This is the variable that matters.

Hornton Street can pretty well do what it wants. At present it wants to favour developers over all else. The recent Cabinet Member for Planning, Cllr Ahern, recognised this clearly and stated publicly that "planning needs to be made more resident friendly". Cllr Ahern is right. In spades.

Residents and resident opinion have been trivialised and insulted for decades by the Ruling Party and Officers in Hornton Street. This attitude was encapsulated by Cllr Weale, a Cabinet Member at the time, who was overheard to say at a particularly heated planning consultation that "we agreed to listen but not to hear"

The Dame, the hornets, the independents and those who care, need to continue to make it clear to Cllr Paget-Brown, the Leader of Kensington and Chelsea, that what he is doing is not approved of.

  4. The Council decided what to do and did it. Objectors thought that they could be clever and invoke the law to prevent abuse. But the Council just circumvented the law or used process to achieve force majeur.

The philistines (residents) stand no chance against the ruling Tories

    1. I know all about the fine arts of "process". The professional jargon is "administrative means".

  5. The champion of this project is the Cabinet Member for Planning, Cllr Coleridge

  6. The Council is adding insult to injury. Manipulation of the truth following an illegal decision. Sick, cynical and disgusting.

  7. The Dame and her friends should stop moaning about a shit building that was knocked down and be replaced by a spanking new school. The children will benefit from this.

    1. The beneficiaries will not be the children; they lose a wonderful playground.
The beneficiaries will be the greedy commercial developers who will make multi millions. The school, a remarkable example of Victorian architecture, was like it's soul mate, the old Town Hall, a victim of philistine greed.
The children were mere pawns in a 'big money' game, as usual, lost by the cretin councillors. You are as vulgar as the language you use. You know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

    1. Its a rats nest. The usual rats nest. Big project, big money, prime Chelsea, big brown envelopes.

Shops and schools are the soft underbelly for developers. No freeholds or leaseholds to negotiate and buy out in order to get hold of the properties. Short leases for shops that are kept on the radar for when they expire. And easier still, the stroke of a pen in Hornton Street to vacate a school site.

    2. Shops are always built on these development sites so that the residents cannot enfranchise and purchase the freehold should they be so minded.
