IT SHOULDN'T BE LIKE THIS;.....

For too long the Council has sided with 'Big Money' and ignored residents.

In this case, the "Big Money' is the Ritblat family and a little known mysterious New York dealer in distressed assets, Ares.
Today, at just a day's notice, many residents turned up to denounce the Council for once again colluding with 'Big Money' at their expense.
'Big Money' does not always have to antipathetic to the community; in fact, in the case of the Odeon, a well-known and very rich developer had come forward with a plan which would align the interests of investors with those of the twenty-eight thousand residents who called for the halting of next week's demolition.

Interestingly, the Council was informed of the demolition plans on the 15th August but still pretended ignorance of Ritblat's demolition plan.

They even went ahead with trying to set up a meeting with the potential saviour of the cinema knowing that the demolition was imminent.

Hornton Street could not care less about residents. It should be our Borough for our use. Instead it is their Borough for brown envelopes.

  2. This whole saga is unbelievable. Again. It happens again and again. But it is getting worse.

A huge consultation was supposed to be going on. There has been no response. Except for the rumor that the cinema is going to be demolished anyway.

Is this a spook story? Is demolition really about to happen??

    1. Even Central Govt takes consultation seriously. Consider Heathrow.

But K&C is beholden to the developers. And piggy sleeps. Or worse.

  3. Well done to everyone who turned up today, half of this fight is about bodies on the ground.

Hopefully the council will sit up and take notice.

There used to be a cinema club for children at Kensington where children came from Fulham, Chelsea, Kensington and Hammersmith so popular the police had to be present.

    1. How and can it be done before they start demolishing? If possible, I think one needs to be extra swift.

  7. Again , and again and again . When are people going to wake up to the fact, that again and again voters are being lied to and let down by the Councillors who represent them . Turkeys voting for Christmas . The current incumbents aren't really politicians at all - merely lapdogs !

    1. Please read the reasons why this councillor was disqualified. "Favouritism"? "conducted her/himself in a manner likely to bring his/her office or the Council into disrepute"? Sounds familiar. https://www.bindmans.com/insight/updates/when-can-the-law-remove-a-councillor-without-an-election

If we were to make an allegation (if you are sure such and such situation happened) then the councillors WILL HAVE TO answer during the tribunal to clear his/her name. Complaining in a blog comment section will not get you anywhere. Unfortunately I don't have information on any councillor so I cannot do this but some of you have sufficient information I believe. http://towncouncillor.com/index.php/780/disqualification-of-a-councillor

  8. Many of us were involved with a consultation about the future of the Odeon. We thought that we were in the middle of this. There has been no response, or summary, or comment on our suggestions and proposals.

We just read that the Odeon will be knocked down today and redeveloped anyway.

Hornton street taking residents for granted. Kicking us in the teeth again. Paying lip service to consultation. Councillors have a deep contempt for residents. The Planners play their own game, seek their personal brown envelopes, and buy their holiday homes.

    1. But residents, Do not give up! We need to kick them in the B_ _ _ _ _ _s (not physically of course). Making those in power accountable, resistance, exposing the corruption will only end this mess. Believe in people power. We are as much to blame if we continue to comply and support the corrupt authority. We need to turn, walkaway and take other action. We keep getting the same result e.g. let down and corruption continues because we keep on doing the same thing again and again. We need a different remedy. May be we need to peacefully occupy the Council. Icelandian occupied the parliament, threw out the corrupt b*tards, why can't we throw out councillars and key people?

Very sad to read in the Standard that this demo had been hijacked by UKIP. Is that why none of the influential backers of The Hitchcock attended?

    1. What utter guff!

Slinging standard propaganda about, the iron maiden for you.

Liz Jones, who is with UKIP, has supported saving the Kensington Odeon from the beginning. Don't see any Conservative councillor or MP come help the troops, come to that not even a Labour cllr has thought to capitalise on this.

Only person we have seen is Cllr Wade. Bloody hell, she's like a warrior queen in comparison to the slug like Borwick whose slick is left all over the place.

Abingdon Ward Cllrs dont even turn up and it's in their ward Cllrs James Husband, Anne Cyron & Sarah Addenbrooke. Where they?

  10. Really, I was there and saw nothing to indicate that it was anything to do with UKIP. In fact the only political representation was that amongst the supporters of the ACV were a labour Cllr and a Lib Dem Cllr.
