THE DAME BREAKS SOME CONFIDENCES...MILORD CARRINGTON STEPPING DOWN AND KNIVES OUT FOR FRASER HOWELLS

The Dame is well 'plugged in' to the political life of the Rotten Borough and privvy to its many secrets......
As ex Councillor Phelps was wont to say...."not to be invited to a Dame soiree is social death"......
A TYPICAL DAME SALON

......and, at her last, she shared confidences with Lord C............t.

Lord C............t's political career-though a total non event, managed to gain him a peerage-a reward, no doubt, for blandness and doing as he was told.

He also picked up the chairmanship of the Kensingon Conservative Association, a role he performed in a same desultory way he did his short, undistinguished, parliamentary career.

Milord C told the Dame that he was stepping down at the AGM and the two gunning for his job were Cllr Mills and ex Cllr Read.

On the basis of best for the job there is no contest: with Cllr Mills running it's a one horse race.....no one can stand the odious Read!
Also the very un-genteel Fulham Conservatives are going after 'Fragrant' Fraser Howells....they want to see the back of him.
This has outraged the old guard who say this is "not the way we do things".
Sounds 'like tears before bedtime'....as the Dame's old nanny would say.....

Oh, the Dame nearly forgot that old 'Africa Hand', 'Buffy' Buckmaster( the other is Danny 'Boys' Moylan) is to be raised to Aldermanic office.
No wonder he looked more pleased with himself than usual.

  1. What a scoop for the Dame! And what on earth does silly ex Cllr Reid imagine he is doing standing to be Chairman of the Conservative Association?? He is hardly out of school and during his short and undistinguished time as a Tory backbencher in Hornton Street he demonstrated that he has absolutely no political judgement. Just a loudmouth in Council Meetings.

    1. This is the first contested election at the Conservative Association in living memory. What is going on?

  2. Dame, does this mean that Cllr Mills will no longer serve on the Planning Committee? It would be a disaster if she leaves especially as Cllr Freeman will shortly be off to become the Mayor. Planning will once again slip back into the clutches of Warwick and Mackover - both developer friendly, hostile to residents, and Mackover outstandingly stupid and lazy.

  4. Reid was a disaster in his short career in Earls Court a real death wish candidate

    1. Readers should not write off the chances of ex Cllr Reid. The Conservative Association is bust and had to vacate their premises at 1A Chelsea Manor Street and move to the poorest part of the Borough in the North and rent premises in distressed circumstances. Reid is rich and may make a large donation as part of his campaign to be Chairman. Cllr Mills does not have spare cash to throw around. Think about all the Tory donors who ended up in the House of Lords.

      Get it?

    2. Not sure where Observer gets that idea. Jonathon has no cash to splash.

    3. A failed Goldman Sachs banker then? No longer one of God's people?

Where did Reid find the money to dig his uber basement?

    6. What basement? I thought he lived in a flat?

    7. "Builder" needs to keep digging. He/she is close to the truth. All is never what it seems with J Reid. Clue: it is the building, not the flat

  5. The Dame's influence spreads yet further. She now has the head of the Chairman of the Kensington Conservative Association in her antique mahogany trophy cabinet.

Residents need Councillors Mills and Freeman sitting on the planning committee. This may well be the Conservative's way of silencing them.

  6. Strange that Fulham is still going after Fraser-Howells. Moving him out of Chelsea Manor Street and isolating him in the far North of the Borough put distance between them. But clearly not enough. The dislike is huge.

  8. Retiring Buffy will be made an Alderman. Much deserved by this twice serving Mayor, multiple Committee Chairman and School Govenor and Cabinet Member for Education where he was the founding force of the new £100 million Holland Park School. The big question is whether the soon to retire Cllrs Moylan and Cockle will also be made Alderman.

  9. And being a founding force in the squandering of £100million on a school is a qualification???

  11. Everyone who has done 12 years or more service becomes an alderman, it is no big deal. Weatherhead, holt and Hoier are also to be elevated later this year. On Reid, are we actually talking about Read?

  12. Dear 12.26
This is not true. Former Councillor Stuart Shapro, who served well over 20 years as a councillor and was both Deputy Leader and Chief Whip of the Labour Group, was vetoed by Cockell from becoming an alderman following some anti-Semitic objections from a former disgraced mayor.

  13. As Cockell himself is Jewish difficult to believe he would display such two facedness

  14. Yes but he pretends not to be.
