HAMMERSMITH & FULHAM TO CLOSE DOWN PR DEPARTMENT?

There is a rumour H&F have closed down their PR Department saving £400,000 a year:a saving they intend deploying to help the elderly in need.

The Dame has been banging on for ages about the money wasted by RBK&C on Mr Fitzpatrick's unfit for purpose £450,000 a year, seven strong PR empire.
His sidekicks have so little to do they resort to writing about frogs in Holland Park and UFO's landing in  council car parks.
The Dame says Nick Paget-Brown should follow the example of H&F and shut down this total waste of money.

The quality of in house council PR's is lacklustre-most would never survive in the harsh world of consultancy.

It follows then that it's much more cost/performance effective to employ, on an ad hoc basis, a lean and keen external consultancy....

The Dame would like confirmation of the H&F story please.

  1. It was reported in the press. To be confirmed at the next H&F Council Meeting. Not just the PR Department. They are closing the Council Newspaper as well. Clearly someone is listening to the Minister for Local Govt - Eric Pickled.

Cllr Palmer may care to reflect that sometimes "Labour makes sense"

    2. H&F would never listen to the Tory Pickles. But they have clearly taken the Dame's advice.

  2. H&F is still part of the tri Borough. Presumably the three Boroughs talk from time to time. Paget- Brown will be aware of what is going on. It is not only the Dame who is calling for Fitzpatrick and Co to be booted out. Hammersmith has already taken the Dame's advice and decide to stop wasting money on the Hammersmith Pravda and their PR Department.

Come on PB, get off the pot.

    1. As reported here:
http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/Directory/News/Tax_on_disability_to_be_abolished.asp They are also abolishing the stupid self-congratulatory banners.

An excellent example of reprioritisation. Perhaps they were listening to me: http://fromthehornetsnest.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/where-should-our-priorities-lie.html.

Or perhaps there is something in the wind. Nick PB take note.

    2. More than a touch of irony in what Councillor Dent Coad says15 March 2016 at 13:10

So Cllr EDC applauds Hammersmith and Fulham Council for reprioritising the use of scarce resources.

It is a pity that Councillor Dent Coad did not manage to stop the self-congratulatory rubbish which spewed out of the Tenant Management Organisation, with a certain degree of regularity, when she was on the TMO. The TMO could have reprioritised spending the money it wastes on self praise nonsense like Tenants Link.

  5. With £500k PR departments, and £1 million a year opera companies, K&C shows that local Government is not yet ready for devolution. There would be waste and profligacy on an industrial scale. And it is not just the Royal Borough. Last week we read that a West Country Council fired its Chief Executive and gave him a £300k pay off. Worse still, it came out that the Council had given the rogue a Porsche Panamera for his personal use! Not sure if the Bentley or the Porsche is the worse offense to rate payers.

  6. Palmer....you are a like a child with your continual refrain.
No wonder the ghastly Lord Sugar recognised someone quite as ghastly as him and booted you off his ludicrous show.
Are you too stupid to understand that saving taxpayer's money through targeting waste is just good fiscal management?

  7. Greetings from sunny Peterborough.... We too are having fun and games and have just blogged on it in the Peterborough Tribune We are going into an austerity meltdown. http://parkfarmneighbourhoodwatch.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/toffs-pr-department-may-get-boot.html

  8. Since our councillors seem to believe that the private sector always does things more efficiently than the state, if they believe the PR department is essential then they should put it out to tender.
This would show that they don't only save money by picking on children, the elderly, social housing and the selling off of our assets,

  9. Lets stop for a moment and think. A Council is supposed to carry out basic civic duties like clearing the dustbins, sweeping the Parks, maintaining the streets and looking after the elderly. Why do these functions require a PR Department? Why does the Council require an endless stream of press releases? And £500k to do these things? Over the top????

    1. Councils provide over 600 services. Some of them need a bit of publicity

    2. A lame reason for wasting the thick end of £500,000 a year plus.
The majority of those services would be of no interest to print media.
This is a job for one man and maybe the dog.
An analysis would show the pick up rate by national media would hover around a fraction of a %: as for local media....well, apart from the Dame, there are virtually only two others.
This is a quite superfluous department. You outsource to an agency when you need help...there one hundred or so local ones quite capable of working ad hoc.

    3. Case, set and match, No 10.29.

Stop wasting our money. £500k from PR, £1 million from Opera and £100k from the Noor Festival (all of them every year) would look after hundreds of old people in our Borough who find it difficult to cope because they have no reserves of cash.

Fat cats who want opera and Festival can dip into their piggy banks.

  10. Let's start with waste. RBKC privatised dustbin clearance and sweeping etc years ago. The tendering process for contracts was routinely manipulated. So for the last quarter century RBKC residents have paid twice the proper rate for their waste services. When the matter was brought to it's attention, rather than address it, RBKC responded by shelling out £728,000 of residents' funds in an attempt to to hide it.
