The Dame, discreetly veiled, managed to overhear that the H&F gang were blaming Pooter for diverting them from what they considered could have been victory on their own patch.
Had they not done so they might have done better in H&F...or at least, that is their moan.
And had they refused the Stanley Ward results might have been a bit different.
But many are asking whether this could be a 'UKIP Moment' for the Chelsea Independents.
With no political organisation behind them and none of the postal votes, crucial to Conservative success, they made massive inroads into the Conservative vote and left Labour well behind them.
So three inexperienced campaigners managed an aggregate of 1376 in the most Tory of strongholds.
By any measure Barshall, Henderson and Schumi did well.
The Stanley Three are to be heartily congratulated. It's a remarkable achievement. Please keep flying the flag for the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteHowever, be wary of Ukip. RBKC jumped into bed with H & F and that's hardly proved a raging success. Fascinating.
It's all about Postal Votes....something Fraser-Howells excels at.

The independents are to be congratulated they have shaken Cockell, but now will it be business as usual or will the very nice Paget Brown kick bottoms.
ReplyDeleteIt may not be business as usual at all. RBKC must now ask their Labour neighbours if they are still willing to let their officers run Hornton Street into the ground. This was not the plan and it's always possible H & F Labour will refuse outright or demand a high price for its co-operation. Very red tory faces all round. A delight.
ReplyDeleteI remember the arrogance of a Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) Tory Councillor when the Tri-Borough Partnership first got off the ground. He was asked what would happen if H&F went Labour in a future election. He dogmatically asserted that even if a Labour Council were re-established in H&F, with distinctly different policies, the Tri- Borough business model would survive because it was possible to run a Council with different policies within the framework of the Tri-Borough Partnership. The problem is that this bold, dogmatic,statement is not a statement of undisputed fact. Council policies often change when new administrations take over. The former Tory Administration cannot bind any of its successors to any of its policies. .
DeleteIf the Tri Borough concept is ditched by the incoming H&F Labour administration, I think Council Tax payers there can kiss goodbye to the reductions in Council Tax promised in Labour's manifesto. Sound finance and pragmatism is not the stuff of the Labour Party. I heard that the outgoing H&F Labour administration in 2006 was paying £ 7 million a year in interest on borrowings before it provided one Teacher, one Dinner Lady or one Home Help. Labour loves to raise local taxes and spend other people's money. We saw this with Ken Livingstone at the GLA which spent £1,1 billion on Diversity and Inclusion over his eight year reign. In came Boris and out went the profligate vote catching spending.
The H&F Tories between 2006 and 2014 reduced borrowing and reduced the Council Tax by 3% per cent every year for 8 years. It is inevitable that Labour in H&F will true to form. revert to type.
The quicker their non achieving chaotic officers leave the Royal Borough the better. They have been allowed to reek mayhem in Hornton street, done nothing for residents, good riddance.

ReplyDeleteTime for Andrew Christie, inherited from Hammersmith & Fulham to manage children's services, to stop abusing disabled children by forcing them to travel up to four hours in the disastrous new HATS transport contract, arriving at school covered in their own excrement. Let's hope the end of Tri-borough means that this outrage will end as quickly as possible.

ReplyDeleteThe HATS contract is a disgrace. All officers and councillors who have been responsible for this should resign or be sacked. They have put children and families through hell and brought the Royal Borough into disrepute.
ReplyDeleteThe Borough's Press Department first of all failed to put up the Dalgarno ward result on the website and then wrongly claimed that newly elected Labour councillor Mohammed Bakhtiar is a Conservative! The fact that Labour gained an additional four seats and that the Chelsea Indies gave the Tories a very bloody nose has been very carefully concealed by the Council's discredited press machine.

DeleteI very much doubt that Emma Dent Coad would be any better than Judith Blakeman, I am not impressed by either of them. Emma Dent Coad has been on the TMO Board for years and achieved nothing.

I thought Labour's explanation of why they sacked Dez O'Neill was very clear. Obviously the electors of Colville ward thought so too, given his derisory vote last Thursday.

ReplyDeleteThe Chelsea Indies engendered such terror in Tory breasts, they chose to protect ex-Leader Cockle's electoral majority at all costs. This was achieved by drafting H & F Tory workers into K & C on polling day. This move resulted in a Labour majority in Hammersmith. So the Chelsea Indies succeeded in destroying the H & F Tory majority - overturning the K & C master plan for a Tory hegemony across central west London. This is tremendous achievement for the three Chelsea Indies.

What will H & F now do about bi-borough? It's very likely the H & F Labour group was not consulted when bi-borough was created; just like the residents of the two boroughs.This matter is extremely urgent because H & F officers effectively control RBKC. A statement should have been made on Friday evening, but the silence from Hornton Street is deafening. It's a total and predictable mess.
ReplyDeleteSenior H & F officers routinely forbid their K & C underlings from taking their concerns to councillors - even their own cabinet member - without the explicit permission of their H & F superiors. Officers ignoring this diktat will be sacked. It creates a delightful working environment.
ReplyDeleteAll these negative comments about Cllr Palmer are terribly unfair. His yobbish rude outbursts and lack of any social skills show that he is clearly suffering from some form of debilitating condition. He deserves our sympathy not our opprobrium.
ReplyDeleteThe Conservatives support of this poor deluded soul show their active support for care in the community, and for this they should be applauded.
The council has already arranged to provide Palmer with a magnificent HATS coach and cart horse to transport the poor afflicted gentleman to and from the Town Hall daily, at public expense of course. His transport is guaranteed to turn up not much more than 2 hours later than its appointed times and not to take much more than 2 hours for a 20 minute run. Only the very best will do for such a great but frail man.
