If a putative councillor feels it's acceptable to star in hard corn porn films....gay or straight, then he/she should have the courage to give voters the chance to decide whether they wish to be represented by them.
If a prospective councillor is earning fees from starring in any sort of hard core porn movie they should, in any case, be declaring that occupation.
And another thing....the inference that if you are gay you enjoy hard core porn movies is a downright lie and many gay people will find that assumption insulting.

I can't believe some readers think the Dame is homophobic - far from the case! But some feel that any criticism at all is out of place, that gay people are somehow a special case beyond criticism, which is silly.
As a parent I cannot abide any kind of pornography, which pervades our everyday life in a way I find repellent and frightening.
Is the Dame suggesting we hold all Councillors, and prospective Councillors, to account for all their history and decisions to date, including the poor decisions of the past? If so the Council chamber is going to be rather empty, as none of them are angels. Not even close.

The sexualisation of young women and girls is indeed more prevalent and dangerous and has been made 'normal' by the likes of the vile Daily Mail. However that doesn't excuse the 'normalisation' of gay porn, especially S&M porn. How might that affect a young man making his first forays into relationships? Would he then think that 'normal'? By allowing North into a position of authority we are indeed saying, 'S&M porn is completely normal'.

After all, it's a form of gainful employment and thus declarable.

ReplyDeleteMuch of the comment on here demonstrates that Mr North is not suitable material for a family blog and most certainly not suitable for holding public office. OK by me if he can make a living as a porn artist but he cannot expect to cross the lines and enter public service. It is just not the right kind of background and training.
ReplyDeleteIf Lloyd North is indeed still employed in the making of gay pornography then he may well not be a suitable candidate. Mr. North should come clean and the local Conservative party can then come to a decision as to his suitability as a candidate. But if he is not then many of the posts here are complete unwarranted and uninformed nonsense. They only serve to demonstrate a complete unwillingness to accommodate the possibility that Mr. North may have managed moved on from an unwise, if not unfortunate, episode of his life.

ReplyDeleteAs someone who is established and has lived in the Royal Borough for over thirty years and very much involved in local issues, I have a problem. I just do not understand why when there are so many experienced and highly talented people living in the Royal Borough there are so many Tory Councillors, in particular who are not up to a decent standard, not just as good citizens but too many are motivated by greed or self interest. The list is long and I hoped that Nick Paget-Brown would weedle those who were not suitable out and encourage fit and proper residents to put there names forward. As it stands at the moment there are too many councillors who are hopelessly lacking any form of creditability.
