THE BASEMENT PARTY GATHERS PACE

THE SOURCE OF DISCONTENT
Our once tranquil Royal Borough is now a scene of fevered construction. No sooner has one massive basement been completed than another starts.
An it's not just the constant noise, dust and traffic obstruction...residents are complaining about severe structural issues affecting their properties...a direct result of these massive intrusions into the London subsoil.

So serious is the problem that residents talk about putting up single issue anti basement candidates at the next election.

The Dame would like to know more about this new residents first type initiative......

  1. I can't help you on that Dame, but I do hear that UKIP are going to campaign on basements and a referendum of capital projects over a certain budget.

  2. An interesting idea - but if elected they would not be able to deliver. The only way to stop all this is via primary legislation - which needs to be led by Tory MPs.

  3. You mean by Rifkind and Hands? Fat chance of Rifkind doing anything. Doubtless it might conflict with the wishes of the super rich he grovels to in order to scoop up more lucrative non execs. The man is hopeless,

  4. Dear Dame,

THE PITFALLS OF BOTTOMLESS BASEMENTS, AND A USELESS PLANNING AT RBK&C

We in the Royal Borough are onto a hiding to nothing. Planning yields to the bijou basement diggers
with even greater enthusiasm than ever. Yes: "We'll 'Investigate',...and carry on digging Mr Rich Seam
    Basement Dweller...

There is curiously a double-basement new build crammed in the mews at Southend Rd, behind H.St.Ken, behind the Old Barkers.
It was on the market once for for £25million. Today, two and half years down the road, even a reduced £13-£15million doesn't do it.
It won't sell. A salutary lesson for all basement developers...commercially not good idea...

Also, neighbours of basement builds can legally demand of Mr 'Basement' ,nthat sizeable contingency funds are set aside in the event of 'mishaps' (sic).

    Best,
    Mirek
