But often the answer is that they and the children have nowhere to go, or think one day it will stop, or that they can 'cure' the abuser. Sadly, it rarely does stop. Abusers-alcoholic, or otherwise, carry on until the very worst happens.

Friends throw a party to carry on the fight for local women
The flower-filled garden of the Lighthouse centre in Ladbroke Grove will
be the venue for the launch of the
Woman’s Trust ‘ Double our Friends’ scheme on 20 June.
The charity, which provides unique support for women experiencing
domestic violence already has 300 ‘Friends of Woman’s Trust’ – women
and men who support the charity’s work, raising money, attending events and helping
raise awareness of the lethal dangers of domestic violence. Now they want to
reach the next 300 – and anyone with an interest in supporting their work is
welcome to come and find out more.
The Woman’s Trust annual summer party will happen
at the Lighthouse on Lancaster Road from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Speakers will
include Jeanette Arnold, Chair of the London Assembly and Caprice Bourret,
businesswoman and Friend of Woman’s Trust.
Heidi Reidel, the charity's Director said,
“ Woman’s Trust thrives because of the hard work of its staff,
volunteers and our 300 amazing Friends. As the need grows, we want to double
the number of Friends to help raise awareness and support the work we do with
women across London.
Our summer party is our chance to say thanks to our Friends – we’d very
much like to welcome anyone who’d like to know more.’
In the last year alone, Woman’s Trust has helped hundreds of women and their children by providing
one-to-one counselling and support for women living with domestic violence or
recovering from its effects on their lives.

ReplyDelete"Bleeding hearts club." How disgustingly insulting to the women who are being shuffled from pillar to post with kids in tow, and the volunteers and low paid staff who work with them. You may be interested to know that refuges are being given to the lowest bidder which means that the support and services given to women who have fled their homes in fear of their lives are less than they could be. That funding for advocacy and other support has been slashed. That domestic violence is increasing. And that two women a week are murdered by a current or ex-partner, leaving children devastated.
ReplyDeleteBut since you, 21:40 and Fly Swatter, sound like people who don't give a damn about anything other than your political games you probably think this is all wishy washy nonsense. If this is the case, if ever you get thrashed or terrorised I hope the people around you find your predicament as tedious as you find the experience of people who suffer domestic violence, and treat you with the contempt you demonstrate for vulnerable women and children.
It would be fascinating to know if either of you have anything to do with the funding of services in the Borough. It would explain a great deal.

ReplyDeleteQuite so. Children are taught at an early age that if they put their fingers in fire they get burnt. And guess what. They stop putting their fingers in fire! Women need to learn to stay away from abusive partners. It is their responsibility. Its called growing up. If there is the catastrophe of children arriving in abusive relationships then this is a problem to be sorted by families. Not the state. Aunts, uncles and grandparents are the pragmatic safety net

ReplyDeleteThis nonsense is at the other end of the spectrum to the other nonsense called subsidy to Holland Park Opera from the Council tax. Both are equally ridiculous. It is quite right that the Tories are cutting back on the former and high time that they cut back the latter too. The Dame and her bees are watching Cllr Paget-Brown closely. Talking about eradicating the subsidy has been going on for too long. The Cabinet is running out of time

ReplyDeletePolitics is about the wellbeing and work of individuals and groups. People used to come into politics to be of service. When intrigue and gossip take precedence over people we find politics held in proper contempt, as it is today by ordinary voters. Speaking as an ordinary voter I find the comments here sad and a little disgusting, but educational.
