Giving up the leadership and the chunky near £70,000 allowance obviously was a hard call, but did Cabinet colleagues offer some sort of incentive? It would seem so.....
The word going around is that as part of his Income Supplementation Programme he will be offered a
Cabinet post.
This will obviate the immediate need to pop down to the Benefits Office. It will mean a slight shortfall in income, but nothing too hard to bear.
The question is who will be pushed aside to make way for Pooter and what Cabinet position will he be offered? Ideas please.....
If Conservative councillors agree to such a move it will leave a very sour taste in the mouth.
The man needs to get back to being a backbencher and start to take a real interest in the long neglected residents of Stanley Ward.
If this story is true then it is very bad news. Leaders who move on need to leave the field clear for their successor to stamp his or her authority and style.
