Deselected as K&C Labour Councillor Keith Cunningham (sacked for being hopeless) has set himself up as a "Planning Consultant" to help multi millionaire basement excavators having difficulty with Council approvals.
'Our Keith' claims to have the sort of inside track we all dream of. One Conservative multi millionaire Abingdon Villas owner paid 'Our Keith' £10,000 for his 'expertise'.
As Cunningham has not one relevant professional qualification one has to wonder what he does offer.....
This new market opportunity is a great little earner for all manner of experts and cowboys who have piled into the K&C honey pot.
2000 basements already applied for and only 10% rejected by Mr Bore and his planners. Officers could help 'Our Keith' to increase his fee if they were kind enough to double the rejection rate.
When Keith was fired from his job in North Kensington he lost the £30k SRA sinecure as Leader of the Opposition, a recipient of Pooter's patronage society. Obviously this particular Councillor is having no problem making up the cash shortfall. Pooter should take heart - he too can find a substitute for the £150k per year he is takes off tax payers as absentee Leader of K&C. If only he would get off his backside and go look for it.
So how is Keith helping to jack up revenues from the putative Mansion Tax? Simple...every time he gets a new basement through it increases the value and thus the tax take from the Mansion Tax...nice one Keith!

DeleteThere needs to be a 'cooling off' period for officers too, as many go straight from Planning to Planning consultants, and can use all their contacts, knowledge and experience against the Council process, which is disgraceful.
ReplyDeleteCunningham always liked money. Definitely not "Old Labour". With basement applications in K&C running at 400 per year, if he only manages to corner 5% of the advisory market at £10k per time, that's a massive £200k per year. Add that to his Lecturer's pension and his State Pension, and this "new Labour" guy is firmly in the Blair footsteps.

DeleteThe Council held a Planning Briefing for Councillors in Hornton Street last night and it was reported that basement applications are running at the rate of 800 per year. That's an extra income for "Keith" of £400k per year

ReplyDeleteYet another politician who leads by example! It does not surprise me why in a recent poll in the Nationals, Politicians came bottom on the point of trust with, I think 17%. They are a complete let down and it is time for reform of both the Hornton Street and for that matter both the Commons and Lords becasue there are just far too many of these people with far too little to do. In fact they are a darn nuisance. The danger is that as time goes by fewer and fewer people will vote; in truth in RBK&C there is little point in voting as it is a foregone colclusion who is going to win. This sadly is one of the downsides of the present election system, my view would be to go for a hybrid between the present ystem and proportional representation (and I am not a Liberal); just fair.

ReplyDeleteWas Our Keith misusing Council resouces? It was reported that after he left the Council a lot of his private business affairs - "Planning Solutions" - were found on a PC in the chairmen's room, which had to be hurriedly deleted.

ReplyDeleteWhile a councillor, Cunningham had a remarkable ability to assist certain applicants to obtain planning permission. Interesting to see nothing has changed.
