A DESPERATE PLEA FROM HOLLAND HOUSE

  1. A very sad reflection on the philistine proposal from Opera Holland Park.
They should hang their heads in shame

  2. Opera Holland Park has a huge financial problem. Their costs are more than £1.5 million every year than their sales. The shortfall is made up from council tax and a single commercial sponsor. So it is high risk. The commercial sponsor could leave and tax payers are starting to shout "this is not an appropriate was to spend our taxes.

In fact the economics are worse than it would appear. In addition to the council tax subsidy there is a "hidden subsidy" of perhaps another £1 million that is not passed on to OHP and the tab is picked up by tax payers. Mr Volpe's office in Kensington Public library for example. "Free" storage and dismantling of the tent. A "gift" of the structure with no capital charges. "Free" administration and billing. The list goes on.

Funny how these dirty proposals sneak out over the Christmas holidays when no one is watching. It is a favourite trick of the Officers. But not this time. The Dame is watching
