Dear Councillor Read,
Like you, I also represent a very large section of South Kensington – in fact our Association patch covers from the top of Palace Gate down to the Old Brompton Road in the south - across to the Westminster Borough and Exhibition Road in the west, and to the top of Kensington Gore, encompassing three large wards; Queen's Gate, Brompton and Courtfield - taking in The Albert Hall, all the museums, two of London's busiest underground stations, and most of the less liked embassies and consulates in London plus 109 restaurants, night clubs and cafes. The difference is, we genuinely represent them, because my members have a choice not to join our association every year and actually pay to have me represent them - and have done so for 44 years.
So speaking, as I do from my time spent happily living (and representing my members) in the Borough for more than 44 years and definitely now falling into your category of the geriatric and atrophied - may I ask this question? From your vast experience having sat on a planning committee for, is it three full months now? (most of which time you no doubt have been in sunnier climes). Did you really write that hog wash I read like "vast basement excavations are boring and atrophying geriatrics living in the past"?
A simple yes or no will suffice.

Read demonstrates yet again the contempt this council has for the residents of this borough. And it is a great pleasure to see Caryl holding him to account, arrogant little twat.

ReplyDeleteCllr (call me Tony) Holt is having second thoughts about the Dame and the Hornet, which he has described as a "pox on Kensington and Chelsea". The previously useless and self indulgent Councillor suddenly finds that his peace is about to be massively disturbed because the Freehold Owner of his flat plans to start a massive (two years at least) basement excavation in his house. Poor Tony has nowhere to turn to and suddenly finds that it is only the campaigning Dame and her pressure on the spineless Cllr Ahern to reform the planning regulations re basements that give him any hope.

Chairwoman Harris, in a few well chosen words, has exposed Cllr Read for the fraud that he truly is. This ex Goldman Sachs banker is entitled to be a free thinker but he needs to be released back into the wilderness, the home of all wild creatures. He has no place as a representative of voters and he cannot be tolerated a minute longer as a member of the K&C Planning Committee.

ReplyDeleteShe joins the ranks of the "nutter" Dr Gordon Taylor (Chairman of the West London Residents Association), the "NIMBY" David White (Chairman of the Campden Hill Residents Association) and the "unsound" Anthony Walker (Chairman of the Edwardes Square Residents Association). The Dame is cursed daily by Cllr Cockell who has instructed his IT Department to prevent access to the Hornet website on the Council computer system. Councillors and officers have been instructed not to read the Hornet or to comment. Silly man
You missed out the Chairman of the "Save Sloane Square" campaign, Dr James Thompson, who was firmly dismissed by Cllr Moylan and Cllr Cockell as an unfortunate resident who "had lost it". James, of course, had the last laugh and the madcap plans for Sloane Square from the bus drivers son were consigned to the dustbin
DeleteMercifully for K&C Cllr Moylan has moved on. His unpleasant and bullying behaviour towards fellow Councillors and Officers often spilled over to residents who opposed his views. We should not forget the terrible episode when an inebriated Moylan bawled out and intimidated Margret Thompson in public at a "Save Sloane Square" meeting. Residents did not agree with his views and he "lost it".

ReplyDeleteOne of the crucial jobs of Leaders is management appointments. The right managers in the right jobs (along with strategy and Governance) is what makes an organisation successful. A good Leader "knows his men and women" and makes the wise choice.
ReplyDeleteSomething seems to have gone badly wrong when Cllr Read was appointed to be a Memebr of the Planning Committee and became a member of the Conservative Administration. A poor Leadership move.
Cllr Cockell is the problem and it is time for him to go. He loves the crude attack dog tactics of Cllr Read at Council Meetings and cannot understand the difference between yobs and sobs
