Fiona Buxton Head Hunted

The Dame was tottering down Brook Street, on her way for cocktails at her favourite hotel, when she espied Fiona leaving the offices of search firm, Fidelio. So she was not surprised to read Fiona will be spending much more time working on board practice there.
Well done.... Fiona has an excellent reputation for mastering her brief..... and hard work-some of it not so rewarding-like the expensive fiasco of Chelsea Care!
The Dame has a niggle. How on earth could 'down to earth' Fiona ever believe teenager, Rock Feilding Mellen could fill the high office of Council Leader: certainly his CV is so 'careerlite' one doubts it would be even entertained by her new partners. Come on Fiona...you cannot be a good headhunter and think Rock is up to being Leader!
The Dame so loves to give praise. However, sadly she has received a massive rap over her old knuckles. It seems Fiona has adeptly slipped out of the firing line on her disastrous project: the million pound Chelsea Care. Another commentator called the Dame telling her that Fiona closed down Edenham Old People's Home and allowed officers to use disgraceful tactics to get the old people shunted out fast-and then left it empty for a year. Evidently half the residents died within a year-maybe no connection but that is the fact. A ruthless person was one observation....
Another strident commentator has asked the Dame why she did not put Chelsea Care on her CV. As the Dame's dear old friend Cllr Phelps was prone to advise..."there are times to lie low and times to lie loudly!
Fiona obviously has taken that advice to heart!

This is from the Fidelio Press Release.....
Fiona brings to executive search a wealth of Executive and Non-Executive public sector and organisational development expertise to Fidelio, following 10 years in local government and over four years spent as a Cabinet Member on Kensington and Chelsea Council.
Hope She Won't Find A NED For Pooter
She has been part of the team managing the amalgamation of senior management teams across three high-performing London Boroughs and the integration of National Health Service public healthcare functions into local authorities. She has also held appointments as an NHS Non-Executive Director, serving as Vice Chair of NHS Kensington and Chelsea and Non-Executive Director of Inner North West London PCTs, as well as Chair and Trustee of a number of charities.

Fiona has had extensive experience in recruitment both in her local government and charitable roles.  She understands the importance of clarity of role definition and stakeholder alignment.  She wrote “Equal Balance – Electing More Women for the Conservative Party” for the Bow Group, which challenged the assumption that women failed to be selected because of prejudice, and demonstrated that the small potential pool of suitable candidates needed to be widened to improve women’s electoral success.

  1. Dame. This is great news. Her first job is in outplacement. A new job for Dear Leader.

  2. Before you over gush, Dear Dame, not everyone is a fan of this person.

Cllr Buxton was the architect of Chelsea Care - the Council's business venture that was ill concieved, misconcieved and doomed to losses from inception.

And the implementation arrangements for the sexed up tri-Borough project break pretty well every bit of good management practice for joint ventures

This lady should be kept at arms length from anything to do with governance

  3. Indeed Wasp, she can be brutal, don't be fooled by her kind demeanour. She has spent years working with Eton boys and has learnt from the masters to be emollient.

  4. This blog makes one very uneasy.

It demonstrates clearly that Cllr Buxton has used elected public office to build a CV in order to obtain paid employment from the private sector.

It used to be that individuals with success and achievment in other walks of life offered their ability in public service via elected offfice.

Could the new pracice be the "unacceptable face of public service".

  5. The Town Hall needs to monitor Cllr Buxton's claims for carers allowance in future.

  6. Just as the former Mrs. Ritchie earned her peerage on the back of all the hard work done by Anne Marie Carrie (now Chief Executive of Barnardo's), so Mrs. Buxton is earning her well paid reward on the backs of the work of other hard working Council officers. And trumpeting her "achievements" on the tri-borough management project is thoroughly misguided. What has happened thus far is that Kensington and Chelsea has lost some extremely talented senior officers, most of whom were too horrified by the new tri-borough arrangements to apply for their own jobs and jumped ship instead (with some rather good pay-offs). In their place come the mediocre and the time-servers, many from Hammersmith and Fulham. The head-hunters of the three boroughs often find it hard to agree on whom to appoint to the new jobs, so they end up compromising on the safe pair of hands or the second rater. The effects of all this will soon begin to show.

  7. There are very strict rules covering the employment that Ministers and Senior Civil Servants can take after they leave Office. It is inconcievable that they could take external employment while in Office.

Cllr Buxton clearly needs to step down from her Cabinet role in K&C. It is not right that she should continue with this while employed externally as a Local Govt Headhunter. The conflict of interest spreads across all three Boroughs of K&C, Hammersmith and Westminster.

The dim Cllr Cockell will of course have failed to notice this problem

"Learning on the job" (which Cllr Buxton has been doing in K&C) is not what local councillors should be doing.

"Contributing in the job" is what public service is about.

Another example of the sick organisation, culture and values that Cllr Cockell has created in K&C

  10. Cllr Buxton has "done a Palmer". Using her position as an elected councillor to feather her own nest.

She deserves to be hung, drawn and quartered.

Cllr Palmer set up his own "councillor training" company and immediately set about trying to sell his services to K&C. It is reported that he ran the company from the staff recreation room in Hornton Street

Cllr Moylan's much talked about "streetscapes" won him an Architectural Award. Of course the Architects are happy to give prizes when someone creates work for their members - they know a hand out when they see one. But this kind of prize should be rrestricted to philanthropists who spend their own money. Not ego trippers spending tax payers money.

Cllr Buxton built a CV based on K&C "experience" and went shopping in the private sector

The House that Cockell built is rotten to the core.

  11. Of course Cllr Buxton (boy at Eton) supports Cllr Rock (ex Eton). This is a club that sticks together.

But Cllr Buxton should know better - K&C is not a fairweather club for mates. It should be about the high calling of public service

  14. Cynical use of counsel office for personal gain seems to have become a pattern in K&C. In addition to Buxton, Moylan, Cockell and Palmer there was the shameful conduct of ex Cllr James who dumped her residents in a nano second as soon as she found a Parliamentary seat.

But have no fear. The wheel comes around.

  15. It is a shame when counsellors like Cllr Buxton cynically use the Kensington and Chelsea "Brand" to further their careers.

And even worse when the wheeze is based on work history and contibution that Officers and colleagues in Hornton Street hardly recognise.

    Pass the sick bag

  17. I attended a few Board Meetings of Kensington PCT where Cllr Buxton was a non Executive Director. Her performance was characterised by late arrivals, constant interuptions of the Chairman, and imperious tones. An irritating presence designed to make all present understand that "I am an important person".

    No such thing.

And I would not let her within a 100 miles of my Board!
