Cllr Borwick

No sooner had the Dame written up her little tribute to Glenys Roberts when her telephone tinkled; and no, it was not, for once, Pootin Cockell. It was a senior Conservative and respected activist. Insolently, he started by saying, " Dame, we know you are subject to many 'senior moments' but that is no excuse for ignoring one of the most powerful and well qualified candidates for leadership. For five minutes the Dame had to endure a litany of the attributes that would make Cllr and GLA member, Victoria Borwick a perfect leadership solution. Thinking about it, a character similar to her counterpart, Cllr Roberts in WCC.

CLLR VICTORIA BORWICK

Leadership Material?

Cllr Freeman and Cllr Borwick are seen as damaged goods by the ruling court of Cockell. And the poodles yap to their Master's voice.
But maybe, just maybe, one of them might be the thing we need just now.
Cllr Borwick, an independent minded person, parked the Hornton Street politics and jumped into the Mayor for London race. She came a strong second to Boris, which surprised quite a few, and proved that she is her own person.

  2. Cllr Victoria Borwick is not a fit and proper person to be Leader of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

Apart from the superior wisdom of Cllr Palmer (aka Up Yours) Cllr Borwick is well and truly "grounded". A working mother of four who has spent her life in Kensington, worked in business, and campaigned tirelessly on behalf of her constituents.

    A load of common sense

  4. Could Up Yours be a little more specific!

  5. Up Yours the fact you don't like Cllr Borwick is just a superb endorsement for her.
If you are not careful I will have to brief up the Dame on your issues with telephone calls to Australia. It nearly became a matter of police interest. You have been warned!!!!!

  6. There is no side to this woman. No chips on her shoulder, no back room deals, no desperate need for status and SRA's. She says it like she sees it.

Her time at City Hall has given her valuable experience on the Metropolitan Police Panel where her relationships are excellent.

She is a K&C politician who actually knows what it is to contest an election. No automatic result and guaranteed outcomes. She mustered her forces and built a spirited campaign to become Mayor of London. She has a taste of real politics

Victoria is one of those people, who happens to be in politics, who has to extend the hand of help to those in need. She puts enormous effort into her case load.

  8. Victoria would be the ideal leader. Free from the baggage that mires the so called 'front runners' who have kept their hands in the cookie jar.

  9. If I hadn't met Cllr Palmer personally, I would guess that someone was masquerading as him under the name of "Up Yours" as his comments tend to be so one-dimensional, toadying and crude. I would not believe it possible that such a person could actually hold elected office in this day and age.

However, having met him, I believe the comments of Up Yours to be the genuine work of Cllr Palmer. Can the residents of St Charles ward please take note of the work of Up Yours, and remove him at the next election.

  10. What is emerging from recent threads is a very troubling picture. The Dear Leader sidelines those with independence of thought and/or financial independence. Only those who are dependent upon their Special Allowances and who do not stand up to him are allowed to advance. Given that only one political party has ever controlled the Royal Borough, the politics resembles North Korea more than that of a healthy, functioning democracy.

Cllr Borwick would be a welcome change from the current head, but it's not likely that she has the numbers within the Conservative Group. Bear in mind that anyone who backed an unsuccessful coup attempt would be sidelined, and could even face de-selection ahead of the 2014 elections. It would be interesting if someone with more knowledge of the Tory Group could speculate as to which Councillors would back Pooter, and which ones would be willing to vote for someone new. I suspect that the numbers simply aren't there for a successful challenge.

  11. All the names mentioned in this blog, except for Cllr Borwick, have been putting it around that they are interested in the job when it becomes vacant. Cllr Lightfoot has even announced his campaign organization under the management of Cllr Palmer, that mastermind of campaign cock ups in North Kensington

This is the way that "elections" work in K&C

  12. Cllr Borwick runs a very busy life. Mother of a growing family. West London Representative at the GLA and Ward councillor for Abingdon. It all goes like clockwork because she has a dedicated team, they have been with her for ever, and it works.

Victoria delegates and inspires. And she gets results.

  14. 16.57, all that is required for change is a decision by the conservative group of councillors that the time has come.

They know that there are candidates ready and willing to put their names forward for an election. And voting is in secret so difficult to see how anyone might be "punished"

  15. Cllr Borwick spoke out against Holland Park School. She made her views known about Sloane Square and the first "shared space" stupidity off Sloane Square. She did this after sounding out resident opinion and made their views known in the debate.

This "tendency" should be the foundation of democracy. Instead it is punished by the hubris of the "rulers", Cockell and Moylan

  16. Cllr Borwick offers a chance to break with the bad practices that have built up in K&C. Cllr Roberts from Westminster said

"Is it possible to stand for a major political post without succumbing to the culture of secrecy, doublespeak, cover ups, spin and downright lies which we have come to associate with politicians these days?"

It could not be put more plainly and truly for Hornton Street.

  20. 23.20, Thinking of the Councillors in turn, I am still very sceptical that this Conservative Group will vote to remover Pooter. Don't forget that many of them know that their special allowances could go if there was a change in leadership, so they have a vested interest in the status quo. And the actual voting may be in secret, but any challenger will need to have a critical mass of Councillors backing them publicly to have any chance of success.

If someone had the guts to step forward and call for a change, they might be able to build up support, but I will believe it when I see it.

All four councillors mentioned in this blog (Ahern, Borwick, Coleridge, Lightfoot)have made it clear to friends that the time is overdue for leadership change in K&C.

The opinion of Cllr Moylan is more circumspect. He would like to keep the option open until there is clarity about the outcome of upcoming elections at City Hall. Cllr Moylan is a controversial candidate but he has a strong core of support, for example Cllr Buckmaster

A casual stroll through the Conservative backbenches suggests that there is widespread longing for a change of leadership. A great deal of respect for what Cllr Cockell has done but a feeling that it is time for him to move on.

    ReplyDelete
  22. So Buckmaster supports Danny Boys...of course, they were both old Africa hands. Moylan has no core of support amongst residents and it seems doubtful that his colleagues would support this boorish bully

    ReplyDelete
  23. Of course Cllr Moylan wants to see what happens with the London Mayoral election. If Boris loses, one of Ken's first tasks will be to fire Moylan from his job at TfL. He'll have to finance his trips to Thailand somehow.

  24. Bully Moylan or the highly unqualified Rock as future Leader would be the very worst outcome for the residents of K and C.
