Portobello People Power supported by Planning Committee
The Dame was delighted to hear the following....
"On Tuesday evening RBKC Planning Committee voted 4 to 1 to reject the latest planning application to regularize the notorious plastic shopfront of All Saints' megastore on the corner of Westbourne Grove & Portobello Road. A considerable crowd of residents & supporters of "Save the Portobello Road Market" cheered as the decision was announced. "
The happy crowd then moved en masse to a nearby watering hole! Well done the Planning Committee for hearing the people
Another item of welcome news for Portobello is that HM Planning Inspectorate has announced its intention to take a closer look at the future of trading in the Admiral Vernon antiques arcade."

Great news well done!
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent result. And early evidence of the new approach that Cllr Tim Ahern (Planning Supremo)is bringing to the Town Hall.
ReplyDeleteCllr Ahern is of the opinion that Cllr Moylon (his predecessor in charge of Planning) was too "developer friendly". Tim is making the Borough more "resident friendly" in planning matters.
High time too!
The man to back in any leadership campaign is Tim Ahern. He actually listens to people and is a decent fellow. Vote for Ahern
ReplyDeleteIs Cllr Ahern tough enough to cope with the Bi Borough mess that Cllr Cockell will leave behind?
ReplyDeleteLets be clear - K&C needs a match for the Leader of Hammersmith, a man who takes no prisoners
Well what a great way to end the day..within less than 24 hours a councillor who listens and acts on what residents want! Cllr Ahern for Leader...when do we vote? When's the the next high tide to take pooper down river to wave at passing boats. With the backing of the residents who will understand why Cllr Ahern is withdrawing from this mess all will be well. Don't waste anymore time or money on this trite borough stuff it's poopers fault get out now, we've been told we can.
ReplyDeleteCllr Ahern served in Merrick Cockell's Cabinet at the same time as Cllr Moylon. In Kensington and Chelsea we have collective responsibility. It is what gentlemen do.
ReplyDeleteCllr Ahern should not be critical of a fellow Cabinet member. It is out of line.
Palmer. Why don't you get back into your box, but learn to spell first.

ReplyDeleteI think Tim Ahern is the only Cabinet member who can understand finance, relate to people and more to the point has had a very successful career.
Cockell is punting Fielding Mellen. Fielding Mellen is an inexperienced kid with no life experience. He will be subjected to a continual onslaught by the Dame as he blunders along. The other day he was quoted as saying, "I want to celebrate diversity'-a master of the recycled cliche!!
"Up Yours" you do talk balls.
ReplyDeleteCllr Ahern is quite right to stand up for residents and represent their views. In case you forget, Up Yours, its what democracy is all about.
Even the super smooth Cllr Timothy Coleridge was critical of Cllr Moylon when they were in Cabinet together. "Daniel gets carried away and unfortunately none of us noticed what he was getting up to in Slaone Square until it was too late. The damage was already done. Sometimes he gets it badly wrong and needs to be controlled".
Collective responsibility is a Billy Bunter joke in Hornton Street, Up Yours.
ReplyDeleteLovely Timothy Coleridge badly wanted to be Mayor when his turn came around. But when he spoke up for residents of Sloane Square, against the silly plans proposed by Moylon, he was black balled by the toad Cockell - who stamped his little foot and took away the bauble. In a fit of pique Cockle gave the bauble to the dreadful Joanna Gardiner who went on to distinguish herself as the Mayor who went shopping in the Bentley.
Its not collective responsibility in K&C, dear "Up Yours", its patronage dictatorship.
It really is infuriating how the insect "Up Yours" survives the many attempts to swat him.
ReplyDeleteThe personal support and patronage of Cllr Sir Merrick Cockle is very potent.
Watch out Palmer - you are on borrowed time
Oh dear 11.06. You need spelling lessons too.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I gather Councillor Ahern is too much of a gentleman to play silly games or bleat sheep rhetoric such as 8.38 and rock FM. He works quietly for local people, not for himself and understands the real world. These are times of great change, without taking the mess poopter and his gang have created re the unholy trinity into consideration. No doubt when he has gone more will be unearthed thats what usually happens.
ReplyDeleteLocal people need someone who understands what's going on, who has the courage to stand up for what's right for the residents of this Borough and not be an empire building egotist with minions bowing to everything under the illusion that they are gentlemen! By the way 838 there are women
Councillors too..in case you haven't noticed.
Interesting to note that only last Sunday a Conservative councillor assured me that there were no quarrels among K & C Tories ...! Quite.
ReplyDeleteOn behalf of the good people of Portobello; may I take this opportunity of inviting Cllr Ahern to attend an MSAG meeting. There is no lack of issues requiring his attention.
A minor correction is necessary. The Planning Committee actually voted 3 to 2 to reject. However; the Chairman confirms his support for his colleagues' decision.
There seem quite a few in Courtfield Ward!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that the Lib Dem councillors - who always claim to have Portobello Road imprinted on their hearts - couldn't be bothered to turn up and speak at this vital meeting. It was left to Labour councillor Dez O'Neill to represent the people and Tory councillors Hargreaves and Rossi and Labour councillor Atkinson to do the decent thing. Shame on councillors Donaldson and Buxton - Cockell's poodles. And just how petulant can Mr. Bore can be?

ReplyDeleteThe Lib Dems have turned out to be a sad little crowd of councillors
ReplyDeleteA pity. Many of us had high hopes that they might create an opposition in Hornton Street
When the first LD arrived in Hornton Street (Cllr Carunha) she was cold shouldered by the Tory heavies and maybe it put the fighteners on her. Cllr Paget- Brown noticed the rudeness of his colleagues and (gentleman that he is) extended the hand of friendship to our Carol and told her the ropes.
But it seems that she was already busted.
