Cockle in huff over Heff

News reaching Hornet this week is that Sir Merrick of Cockle and his "friends" were incandescent with rage following Simon Heffers hatchet job on how the Dear Leader is amongst the highest paid councillors in the country. As if we needed to be told that he receives over £100,000 from the public purse.

Tempers were raised so much one of the inner circle let it slip The Telegraph received a call from, Hornet is informed, Cockle himself demanding explanations or apologies.

The piece in the Telegraph was factual and Cockells expenses and allowances are a matter of public record, so why the fuss? The little bird unfortunately at this point realised they had let slip and flew off muttering "oh no what I have done.....?"

Hornet has some advice for Sir M, if you cant stand the heat the get out of the kitchen. You could always "apply" for a post in places like Libya or Iran where suffocation of the press by politicians is a state sponsored art form.

  1. I thought that Simon Heffer's piece in the Telegraph was very kind to our boy, Cockell. After all, he could have talked about the $400 dinner at Kean's in New York (paid for by ratepayers) with the crook Ian Clements and he could have talked about dinner at the swanky Four Season's restaurant (also paid for by ratepayers)on a Saturday night with a mystery guest. Cockell told his Chief Executive (Derek Myers) that he "forgot the name of the person who he had dinner with".

  2. Sir Merrick started Royal Borough's version of The Big Society when the concept was just a twinkle in David Cameron's eye. I thought Sir Merrick was supposed to be a good Tory doinf a bit more for a bit less; instead he has jumped on the gravy train.

  3. Why did the Town Clerk (a highly paid executive on £240,000) agree to authorise expenses at a swanky New York restaurant without details of who was being entertained on tax payer's money?

How much influence does Cockell have on setting Myers salary?

  4. I think ranting at senior journalists is unwise. Doubtless Heffer will now be digging deeper into 'Danno' Moylan and others in K&C taking loads of money from us poor residents. Our day centre is closing but these guys are kept in clover. It's a very different Big Society these guys run.

  5. Cockell and his Deputy, the Bus Drivers son from Birmingham, plus their tennis loving Town Clerk (myopic Myers)are quite a trilogy. Between them they work the system to justify First Class rail travel, Five Star Hotels in New York, Business Class Travel, pink chinese granite for the £24 million make over in Exhibition Road, £100 million to tart up Holland Park School, and £3000 a year to DHL papers to Moylan's playpen in well known Pattya beach resort in Thailand. The latest whheeze is a brand new Four Star restaurant for senior staff and councillors in Hornton Street.K&C is recession proof.

The Big Society in action. But would your mother trust these men with her daughter??

  7. when he was in Hounslow the curious looking Myers was known to like tennis lessons at curious times of the afternoon-or so a councillor told me. I can't say more-him being a lawyer and all that !
