Can't be overjoyed... Cllr RFM shouldn't have resigned immediately after the Grenfell Tower fire. For RFM to infer that as Deputy Leader he was doing his utmost for the survivors: after baring the press, seeking the advice of 12 QC's was cruel. Cruel as he, more than anyone shaped Grenfell, shaped the conduct of the TMO (still disgraced Exec Roger Black still drawing salary), shaped the end of local housing in North Ken. Not just questions of Corporate Manslaughter, Grenfell campaigners have long sort an inquiry into Cllr RFM supposed malfience, & now 'gerrymandering' may be added to his charge sheet.Another question is why was Cllr RFM allowed to proceed with discretionary executive powers, where were the checks and balances on this most unusual of character's? Why did Officers RBkC conspire with his unwarranted master-plans? Why was the prep school where he had his children's names down, ever allowed near let alone taking over The North Kensington Library? One day someone in RBKC will spill, and we'll finally get to know how this one man got hold of our civic democracy and thrashed it so... The ghosts of Grenfell are watching him and all at RBKC...
The MAN-CHILD RFM - he is what 35 or so and has been shaping RBKC since his 20's - why was that allowed ?Profile Rock Feilding-Mellen was first elected to Kensington and Chelsea Council in 2006, as a Councillor for St Charles ward, but has been representing Holland ward since 2010.He served as Deputy Leader of the Council and the Cabinet Member for Housing, Property, and Regeneration between 2013-2017. Prior to that, Rock was the Cabinet Member for Civil Society between 2011-2013, which meant he was responsible for the Council's policies on community safety, economic development, the voluntary sector, and community engagement. Until becoming Deputy Leader, Rock also sat on the Major Planning Development Committee.Beyond Kensington and Chelsea, Rock has sat on London Councils' housing and economic development boards, and he has also been a member of the LGA's Urban Commission and has sat on its Housing and Environment Board.Outside of local government, Rock was a trustee of the Westway Development Trust until 2014 and has also served as a governor of a local primary school. Professionally, he runs his own small business. Before all that, Rock got a degree in classics from Oxford University before going on to do a masters in international political economy at the London School of Economics. He is married and has two young children.Ambitions: As ward Councillor for Holland ward, I want to serve and represent my all local residents, making sure that I stand up for and protect their interests within the Town Hall.
From Cabinet or Council?
They will resign with tributes and regrets. And all the rest of the rubbish. Actually, they have been fired.
Cracking is selling up and leaving North Kensington where he is not welcome. Hope he leaves the ROyal Borough and goes far away. And it would be a great idea if he also takes family member Cllr Weale with him.
Maybe Clink Street ?
No, dear E99 or perhaps the Isle of Skye - should the residents of this idyll agree to have him, that is. Elsewise, just go away, personally I could not care less where, providing I never hear his name uttered by anyone.
Let's hope that FM is quietly preparing for prison. Lightfoot probably can't stomach any more interference from plebs and pesky coppers getting in the way of the Master Race. Good riddance, and empty your pockets before you leave by the back door.
How could RFM escape a prison sentence? It seems obvious to me but then again, there is that old boys' network where disgraced can do anything and get away with murders....literally.
RFM was spotted at 3pm this afternoon, slender in a dark blue suit, at the western end of Westbourne Grove, no more than 500m from Grenfell. He may have feared being recognised. He waited agitatedly for for an uber car to pick him up. Even safe inside, his expression was that of a deer caught in the car headlights. Who is this person? Why was he selected to stand as a councillor? Why was he given 'cabinet' responsibility? Did he and NPB attend property developers' conferences in the south of France? If so, why? What is the connection with K & C's grotesque shortage of affordable housing? And why did Grenfell burn? At 8.30 on the morning of the Grenfell fire, Lightfoot stood outside his N. Kensington house. While scores of anxious local residents rushed past him bringing what small help they could to the survivors, Lightfoot was deeply engrossed in a mobile phone conversation. Who was he talking to at such a dreadful moment? What were they discussing? Why was he a councillor? Why did he control the cash? Why did he have £300 million stashed away? What did he intend doing with the cash? Why did Grenfell burn?
oh, dear me - all these questions. We will be here for evermore, trying to get the answers you solicit. The best would be to offer his a computer, so that he may write the replies, while wallowing in prison. At least a productive way to pass him long incarceration, me thinks.
Paget Brown must go too
indeed, but who has got the guts to do so? Or, more precisely, who can throw the first stone at the glass-house? The bottomless fetid swamp, in which they all languish, has no such candidates.
RFM is no doubt opportunely heading north, to the family seat for his next building adventure.See http://www.scottishhousingnews.com/16738/450-new-homes-approved-for-east-lothian/#God help them - anyone fancy buying one of his houses without comprehensive fire insurance ?
He'll only have money to design a single stair well too and certainly no sprinklers, short water hose which doesn't reach the top floor.
Rats - Sinking ship .
Will the corpulent Tim Coleridge be resigning as well?
Ahern has got to go
HOW have they (RFM et al) all got away with it for SO long ? Was Eddie Grenfell the only campaigner - Eddie deserves and OBE ( he might not take it though ! )
We'd have to start an alternative OBE and call it AOBE. ;)
But will they get away with MURDER?
With right kind of pressure, we'd have to make sure that they won't get away with murder. We are many and we won't keep quiet!
20.15 They've got away with decades of manipulation of all kinds by ignoring the law and relying on supine authorities, handsomely paid by RBKC to look the other way. Since Thatcher, successive governments have destroyed public protections. Public safety is "red tape," so it has to go. Grenfell is ultimately Thatcher's legacy. 20.16 Surely this is manslaughter. For a murder charge, proof is required that individuals set light to the building with the intention of killing those inside. In the event, RBKC had Grenfell altered in such a way that at least 80 of those for whom they were responsible died and hundreds more are traumatised. This is corporate manslaughter since RBKC is a corporation. The wheels of justice grind slow and fine. Meanwhile EDC pursues her own political agenda. Her duty is to support residents to give evidence to the public enquiry etc. Instead she whips up local anger. She complains about the elaborateness of a venue, even claiming to be "intimidated" by chandeliers! As an MP EDF works in Parliament. It's the most elaborate and daunting building in London. She's not remotely intimidated by it. Nor is one aware that she declines to take her substantial salary. Disingenuousness is not the prerogative of the right.
If they are not charged with Corporate manslaughter we must fight them,it was their negligence that caused the fire! their meanness, their ignorance!
It was the location that was inappropriate for the launch of the Inquiry, not the chandeliers. Sir Martin’s team could easily have found a ballroom large enough in Kensington – the Royal Garden Hotel comes to mind, as but one. Then people would have not had to travel such a distance to a venue not easily reached by public transport. It would have been far easier to transport Sir Martin and his team there via limousines. I am sure they are used to travelling in those. Why the focus is on chandeliers is beyond me.
EDF did complain about the address of the venue, but focused far more on moaning about the chandeliers, both on the 1pm BBC news and Newsnight. On Newsnight EDF was even asked if she thought such politicking helped those she claims to represent. No response. Appalling.RBKC should arrange free transport to all their appointments for the victims and their families. Problem is that RBKC is incapable of organising anything except a sherry party in the Mayor's parlour.
Let's not forget, the media does put a spin on your interview to twist it 180 degrees by right kind of editing i.e. presenting info out of context to make her look ridiculous by focusing on the chandeliers This can be said especially on BBC. Remember, BBC reporter announced the fall of the WTC7 building which was still standing behind the reporter. You can make an anti-child abuse activist look like a paedophile by 'right kind of editing' but when you view the interview in whole, it isn't what they said.
The Newsnight interview was live. Possibly so was the 1pm news. The chandeliers hardly matter. What matters is that rather than bring people together and encouraging Grenfell victims to place their trust the judicial investigative process, EDC repeatedly spreads dissent. Doing so plays to a potentially dangerous situation that will further harm the victims and others. At a time like this we need measured communication, not class war.
Is EDC really not accepting her parliamentary salary? Perhaps it is her councillor allowance she is not accepting, given her attack on Borwick for double-dipping.
EDC was removed as leader of the Labour Group after only a year because she managed to personally alienate a majority of the Labour councillors with her overbearing behaviour. In her short time as MP, she is doing her best to undermine any public confidence in the Grenfell inquiry. She rushed to judgment and attacked the judge leading the Grenfell inquiry without having all the facts. She would do well to think more carefully before she speaks.
Overbearing behaviour!!!!! you mean caring for the local community what a cheek they have. Fielding should be sacked from the Borough and go back to one of his three properties (look on website) he only does it for his own ego.So should all the other old cronies let them go home and play Candy Crush at home.
A well briefed and effective barrister will get out all the issues that the survivors and bereaved want to have investigated at the Inquiry - regardless of where it is actually held, with or without chandeliers!
Someone mentioned EDC openly and derogatorily refers to "posh" people, whilst having a big chip on one or both shoulders. Perhaps that is the problem and part of the reason why its not going to work for anyone in the broad spectrum of RBKC?
Emma is one of the poshest of the posh. She comes from a very ancient and grand Spanish family and was once married to a peer. Give it a rest, Emma and stop being a class traitor/
For sure, she was never married to a fruit
Just because she speaks well does not mean she is 'posh' she has been brought up well but does not mean she does not care, do you really think she would be living in our area (and she is very welcome)if she wanted wealth and fame, I really believe she cares about us plebs. Go girl.
So sad that the only response certain members of the ruling/responsible party have to this is to try to undermine one of the ONLY politicians here who is actually acting on their responsibility to represent their constitutents. All this nonsense about EDC - so painfully transparent, utter nonsense, and totally missing the point. Sums up what the nasty party are all about, I suppose.
