Victoria Borwick, being the sort of person she is, would give due credit to her opponents......Shaun Bailey and Charlotte Vere.
Both made excellent pitches and they will doubtless be seen again in some other election battle.
The Dame has been non partisan during the entire process.
She will now been taking a look at the excellent candidates the Labour Party and Lib Dems are putting up.
She has met both.....

DeleteAs a non-Tory voter, I'm genuinely delighted that Ms Borwick will be the next Conservative candidate for parliament in Kensington. She's local, experienced, competent and popular.
ReplyDeleteThroughout the campaign, the Dame's influence has been remarkable. By providing a wide cross section of local people with a forum for comment, Tory Central Office were persuaded to back away from imposing yet another celebrity on the long suffering residents of the Rotten Borough. Bravo Victoria. Bravo Dame. Two great ladies!

DeleteThree strong candidates and a great short list. There really was a choice. Soon to be ex Cllr Borwick will be a great representative for Kensington in Westminster. A very different future is in front of us.

DeleteA sad sight at the Conservative Association SGM last night was disgraced ex Leader Cllr Cockle sitting alone in a shabby pair of jeans and unwashed jumper. Looking at the person he hates and blocked for many years on the Council being selected as the next Member of Parliament for Kensington.

Shaun Bailey was very powerful last night. The twitter feed gave some instant feedback on the impact he made. But it was all too quick for a very conservative Conservative Association. Too far outside their comfort zone for an instant decision. But he can go far in Conservative politics.
ReplyDeleteThe Association is locked down by the Garden Party set. This needs to change. But some new young faces are emerging. Josh, a young political researcher from Delgano and Maxwell Woodger from Campden Ward were examples of some lively new blood coming through.

ReplyDeleteFollowing the sudden resignation of Sir Malcolm Rifkind Central Office swung into action and sent out the arrogant dictate that the Kensington Association would be "given" a list of six candidates to choose from, bearing the names of David Cameron's favourite celebrities, sycophants and free loaders. This is the new style "sale of Peerages".
But Kensington Hornets swung into action and created a blogging storm that brought forth protests from the likes of Lord Tebbit, ConservativeHome and Simon Jenkins. Central Office was forced to rethink its approach and abandon its planned patronage for this prime Westminster seat. The short list of six prepared by Central Office included four local candidates and two Cameron/Osborne favourites. The Kensington Association knocked out one of the outsiders and two others from the list of six, leaving two locals in the final run off. Kensington now has "the ultimate local" as its next Member of Parliament.
This is a wake up call for Central Office.
Cllrs Elizabeth Campbell, and Weale need to sleep on things and then pick up the threads of their lives again. The world has not come to an end.
ReplyDeleteE. Campbell screwed up the Special Needs situation and shouldn't be in the Cabinet. She spends a small fortune 'beautifying' herself yet deprives tjise in real need. M. Weale...the one who famously said of protesting residents, " I hear, but I don't listen". Useless duo who don't even compare to Vere, Bailey and Borwick

ReplyDeleteCllr Julie Mills is a welcome new broom as Chairman of the Kensington and Chelsea Conservative Association. She can surely be expected to break some eggs and drag the organisation out of the 18th Century - ably assisted by Greg Hands MP and Victoria Borwick MP.
ReplyDeleteEarlier today, in a move that augurs well for the future, a well rested and cheerful Ms Borwick engaged locals in a charm offensive in Portortobello Market. Surrounded by a motley crew of blue balloon waving supporters and escorted by a very slightly nervous RBKC Leader, she was in her element. A great and welcome change in style from that of her aloof predecessor. Overall a jolly good show.

DeleteThis is an odd question. Of course she had a very mixed reception; that's the nature of politics, particularly in areas such as North Kensington. The issue is that she chose to meet people who do not and never will, agree with her political position.

DeleteNothing inauspicious about Victoria Borwick finishing her term at the GLA, she is perfectly able to do both as was demonstrated in her role as Deputy Mayor and a very active Local Councillor whose constituents did not suffer. Unlike some of the councillors whose only employment is as a local councillor but who represent no one except themselves.
